Well..a few years ago I got stictocardia bee ins seeds from Jacques on Reunion Island and it never bloomed.. And it didn't make it through the winter inside..so this year I got a small plant going inside in the fall.. And let it take over one window and across to another... Up in the A/C unit.. Out along the wall before getting ripped out and put outside.. For adjustment. Well it's taking off again.. And now buds... After waiting years...

Love the Stictocardia for sure I have seeds for the S. campanulata and S. beraviensis and I've been waiting to grow them out until I have a place I can keep them going all year long since they tend to bloom in winter in Southern areas. I also understand that they have to be pollinated by a different species in order to produce seeds.

As I've always said, I covet your roof garden!

Yes the stictocardia is budding nicely. Even if it never opened the 3 inch flame on the vine would be enough... And the strength of the vine and rampantly growing shoots. Should support or tear down what it wraps around

The thumbergia blooms today also

Ronnie... The variegated one is the Porcelain Berry Vine..it makes a mottled blue berry that looks like porcelain.. They spray it to kill it in the parks here as it tends to spread. I don 'have a problem as the containers are on rubber roofing and what comes up in the containers I give away
Yes..Anne.. I heard they blooms with shorter day length..and attributed the not blooming inside to it being longer light time in there as I run the lights into the night... So I thought I might have trouble again even with a big vine.. But it flowered right away... That's it though... I grew it all winter inside and in putting it out I do have shorter daylight naturally ... I wonder how long it will take the plant to readjust. And stop flowering. ..so it seems to respond to relatively shorter day time... Not say particularly. Like under 10 hours... It had maybe 15 hours of light through the winter...so there will be shorter daylight until it comes in again... I 'll always start it inside in the winter....
That first bud opened poorly in the rain... But the second one is open today... My first bloom

I'd broken a few bits of the stictocardia off in moving it about.. and pulling it out of the A/C unit inside above the window.. they all have long bunches of roots... a rampant grower and rooter as well

Stictocardia likes roses.. Although I do remove it's now giant leaves where it passes over the roses

Stictocardia is gathering energy from the rampant growth to make a bunch of flowers...and some other vines are going better now too..

Betsy... You might over winter it out there.. Watch out it is a rampant grower...it's grown some 20 ft with a pile of vines...growing about that long all ready this year.. I've started them on strings across the roof to a tall mast some 20 ft away.. From the top of the 10 ft trellis they climbed to.. Then took off.... They are the strongest growing anything I have seen..
