Thank you Neal! If it were up to me there would only be paths to walk through the whole yard (no grass) however my kid sand husband wouldn't be very happy with me. Big Grin The grass just hates out yard. It all dies out unless I run a sprinkler on it all the time.

I don't think I'd be very enthused about irrigating a lawn, especially if I'd prefer to see it planted in flowers. Perhaps when the kids are older your vision will manifest. And hopefully your husband sees your current garden mature so nicely he'll see that you're right! Hilarious!

Maybe you could try convincing the husband that paths edging the garden would make the lawn much easier to maintain with a nice clean edge... no worries about running over plants with the mower... Once you get the paths, then you can start cutting a piece here, a piece there...
When I was at my last house, I had no lawn. My daughter was ages 10-18 there, and really wanted a lawn.. One day I brought home a piece of lawn that was about the size of a placemat and put it by the driveway.. I told her it was big enough for her to wiggle her toes or park her butt... She was not amused..
Now I've got more lawn than I want or need... and I have been chipping away at it over the years making and enlarging the beds. We live in a clearing surrounded by forest, so fire is always a danger. The lawn makes a good break, so I'm not inclined to remove it entirely... but I'm thinking about an island of plants in a couple of areas Big Grin

Tender moments would be perfect! I have to research that one.

I have pictures of the garden plot in progress. My one rose is doing well. I have sunny spots for a couple of other floribunda sized roses - no big Austin monsters for this bed. I have to add some dark leaved plants for contrast...and move a couple of things that aren't working.

The bright lilies that I planted last year are doing well this year.

I'll send some pictures from my phone...so much easier that way.

This planting is a work in progress. The rocks are native and very heavy ...

The weeds are native too. I would have lots more, but I layered cardboard moving boxes under the mulch in that bed. My neighbors thought it was nuts, but it worked. It would have worked better if I had removed all the packing tape first ..... live and learn.

The coral geraniums don't work here. I will move them back into a pot. True orange, yellow, brick red work best in this planting ....especially when the ditch lilies are blooming.

Ditch lilies and roses in the same planting may not be for everyone, but it is the plan. Spotted tiger lilies are also in the planting, but not blooming yet. The rose and lilies are in amended soil. The Ditch lilies are growing on top of tree roots and rocks.

The planting needs work and wedding....
