If it helps, the AHS Daylily Dictionary describes and illustrates hose-in-hose and petaloid stamen ("peony"-type) doubles plus a combo of the two:

Petaloid stamens are shown in close-up here:

I can say that both wild ditch lily and Kwanso are a nightmare to use for pollen. The first daylily seeds I grew were from wild pollen and I spent the whole summer dabbing wild pollen on an old red---and got eight seeds from almost daily crosses, later I tried getting pollen from the edges of Kwanso petaloids or whatever you call them but I have lost all the seedlings in the brush here. They were pretty sad looking little wildings anyway. I'm tempting fate by using Ed Murray and some of his seedlings this summer. The ones I raised a couple of years ago cracked their stems before they bloomed. My father said I always have to do evrything the hard way just to be stubborn!!----Weedy

It's fun to do things the hard way. You get more interaction with people, too!

I believe I have Flore Pleno and I know I have variegated Kwanso. I just noticed today that my Flore Pleno is blooming, but Kwanso is still developing scapes. Can we distinguish the two by bloom time? Single fulva var. Europa began blooming here about a week ago, so it looks like Flore Pleno comes maybe a week later, and I'm guessing my variegated Kwanso in another week. Neither is located by a building, so they shouldn't be influenced by heat from a wall that would speed things up. Of course, my observations would be based on the assumption that variegated Kwanso is a vegetative sport of green Kwanso and is identical other than foliage. If variegated Kwanso is the offspring of the other two, per the AHS database, then green Kwanso may bloom at a totally different time than its variegated namesake.

Does anyone have more than one of these varieties and do you have any observation on bloom times? Bob

I am attaching a picture of what I believe to be Flore Pleno, from my grandmother's garden.

I have never seen bloom time mentioned as a reliable way to tell the difference.

Flore Pleno is a Daylily, right? I am confused by this Double Tiger Lily ('Flora Pleno') Blinking Confused

(Edited to add) The lily is spelled Flora not Flore, what's the difference?

Different genus, Cat, the Double Tiger Lily is in the Lilium family and the Kwanso Flore pleno is in Hemerocallis.
I suspect it's a lot like finding a daylily named 'Catherine' and also finding a tulip named 'Catherine'.

My guess only.

LOL! Hilarious! I see now. I was just confused by it. Trying to keep the names straight can get a bit confusing, they should pick something that's not so close. Big Grin Hard on us beginners. Blinking

Flore Pleno means 'double flower.' It's possible whomever named the Lily either mispelled or wanted to differentiate between it and the Daylily. As far as I can find during my quick search, though, there is no difference. Both mean the same.

Just my guess, too. Green Grin!

Yes, that was why I was confused (which sometimes happens easily) . I had search it and found that also. Thought they were selling a Daylily as a Lily.

See this thread, it is very hard to tell the difference and I still don't know the answer. Even the height of the plants seem to be in question.

OMG! Just saw someone post a pic of 'Flora-Pleno' and I went "Hmmmm", did some research and found this thread. Ive been trying to ID ours and thought I had....and I'm sticking with it for the moment. By the way, this thread a year old. I see too that "Floro-Pleno' has many children and 'Kwanso' none. Here it is.. and ps there posted side by side on todays photos. Confused

JMLG,
Welcome!
That suggestion by Maurice is probably as close as you will get to an identity. I had so many variations that looked so similar I don't even try to distinguish them anymore. Kwanso/Flore Pleno has become my garden name for them all.

Welcome! JMLG!!

Larry, I do the same thing anymore. When I name the photo, it is Kwanso-Flore Pleno. It is raining off and on now, but I hope to get a picture of my row of KFP.

@beckygardener, finally got a picture of the row of Kwanso-Flore Pleno. It only took me a year. As you can see they are not filled in very much. Don't want to give anyone a heart attack, but we've decided not to let them grow, so will be mowing them down after this bloom season.

Vickie - Wow! Those are beautiful! I am sorry to hear that you won't be keeping them. Looks like they finally hit their stride and are filling in the space very nicely! Why did you decide against growing them?

Becky, I guess I am just afraid they will spread to other areas and infect my other daylilies. I have a neighbor who has over 1500 daylilies on about a 1/2 acre lot. Somehow, she has gotten Kwanso mixed in with all those hybrids and it just killed me to see this in her garden.
