Mine have never attained great size, but are certainly wonderful.

Marilyn, thank you for the heads up about the Raffle That Is Not a Raffle. I already bought my tickets. Green Grin!

I'm confused, (as usual). My Raspberry Ice's get huge . Tomorrow I will place a coin next to it so you can see. And the plant is only 9 months old and will grow a few more inches and throw out another ring of chicks in late summer. Now I bought the parent plant from a small local greenhouse over 5 years ago and they have been growing this strain for many, many years. I do fertilize all my plants, but I'm starting to think maybe my plant has evolved into it's own variety over the years??? East coast-west coast. Or maybe I just have a really "green" thumb. Just as long as I don't hear it saying, "FEED ME", I'm okay with it.

Thanks Marilyn, I just bought some tickets. Interesting Bob, do we have a case of a semp miss named? I don't have this one but do have 'Silver Thaw' which is small. Kevin thanks for the history story. Loved that. Hurray!

Going back to look at pictures.

Bobby,
Yes I might suspect you have the wrong plant if it gets very large. Here in OR the conditions for growth are optimal and it never gets to that size nor did it for me in MA. With the arachnoideum 'Tomentosum' as the pod parent it should be quite small. The biggest I have ever seen it is ~4" and that was a plant that would flower that season. I do have rosettes ~10" across in several of my seedlings so I know the plants are growing close to optimally.

Ok, here's some more photo's. What do you guys think? BTW, the only reason it has so much color is because spring was late this year. Today and the rest of the week will be our first warm days. All my plants still have their spring colors.

PS, pretty big Bernstein getting ready to bloom. nodding

Bob,
What season was your pic taken? i uploaded it to my comp so i could inlarge the pics, but that didn't help any. but it looks like the stolons are too close to the mother plant. All the stolons w/chicks on my plants look a lot longer. the chick itself is a couple inches away from the tips of the leaves of the hen and they always start out green on light pink stems., w/a little red in the winter. just measured mine today and the largest 1 is 5 1/2". now.. ( And i do grow some very large semps, There is a 8" 1yr Silver King starting to bloom about a foot away in another pot)
I have to agree w/Kevin you might have another variety.
cliff
this is a pic of a 1yr plant in a 4" pot the length of the stolons show pretty well.

Kevin,
You might be right but, be it looks like a Raspberry Ice. It feels like a Raspberry Ice. It smells like a Raspberry Ice. Must be a Raspberry Ice.
So maybe someone should call guinnessworldrecords and tell them I have the biggest Raspberry ice in the world, then we'll start the bidding off, lets say $5,000.00 first bid. Don't worry, I'll give everybody a chance to bid and win this marvelous plant. nodding

Cahac,

These photo's were taken yesterday and today.

Don't be so quick to judge just by stolons, because they are usually long, but for some reason they started producing chics early this year, or maybe I should say later, I just don't know. Here's another photo I just took of another plant with longer stolons.

Ps...these files are large. Click on them to make larger.

One last note. these plants are in the sun 10 to 12 hours a day. In one month they will be mostly green.

I just got home, then ran out in the glorious rain to take a photo of my 'Raspberry Ice'. Mine is much smaller, but as you can see it is very confined which will make it grow smaller. I will try separating one out and give it plenty of space to grow, just to see how large it will get. I do remember when I got my first one, it had lots of room to grow in and got larger, maybe about 4 or 5 inches. Not sure though. It does go completely green in the summer.
