Hi everyone, I'm new to ATP and this is my first post in the annuals forum. I'm having a problem with voles decapitating African marigolds and Dusty Miller. Tried a few repellents without much hope and, as expected, without success. I need to replant (public landscaping). Does anyone know of any annuals that voles don't abscond with? I know they won't take wax begonias but those won't really work on this particular site. They, or something else, also went after zinnias and Salvia farinacea in another bed nearby so they're out too. Grumbling Angry

That's nasty. My dad used to bury a beer bottle about 1/2 way and at a slant so the wind would make a noise in the bottle. He thought that kept the critters away

There was a good article on ATP:

Thank you, funnily enough I had thought about doing that with bottles. I thought that it might not work because I can't control the irrigation system but on reflection they'd likely still make a noise unless completely full of water.

voles have soft bodies and what I have done is break glass and plant it around the root balls of plants. Also gravel helps They basically dig through the soil and do not like sharp areas.
