Thank you Dave for the dormancy & miscellaneous event additions. I understand about the calendar.

What about the ability to edit w/o deleting & then re-entering? You may have added such, I have been busy all day & am just now getting online since this morning so haven't had a chance to check anything out.

This is what I get when I click edit:
http://garden.org/lists/manage...

That doesn't allow me to change the date I obtained the plant. Am I missing something? Confused

AFTER clicking on the plant's little calendar to bring up "Managing Events",
do you have something like this at the top of that next screen?

You have to click the "events calendar button" first, and then in the next screen,
select which event, and THEN hit Edit.

I have wondered about that, too, and am giving it some thought. @Jon was asking me about his daylily crosses that he wants to track. I'm going to need to make a way for the plant list to support plants that aren't in the database, clearly.

Way to go, Jon! I was wondering the same thing. That would be cool if we could add our own hybridized plants (as possibly hidden) !!!! It would be neat if we could have parentage links to our hybridized plants on the Plant Lists, too. (Always fun to do a visual comparison of how the child plant turned out when comparing it to the parent plants.) I am with Jon and probably many others here who are interested in being able to add our hybrid seedling plants to our own plant lists.
What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us.

I think it's hard to turn computer instructions into understandable words.
Hand / eye / screen coordination is easier to describe and learn if you can point and say "click HERE".

I set up a blank JPG and set up "Microsoft Office" to open it, because I noticed that if I pasted a screenshot into that arrangement, it would automatically create a JPG or BMP or PNG for me. Thank you Dave, for making ALL those formats importable.

I just started adding my 2014 acquisitions to my plant list, saw the new event column, and wandered over here to see what it was about. Wow - what a great feature!!! I've been capturing this type of info using a combination of Categories and Comments. I will update my entries to utilize the Event feature instead.

Is there a way to do a view that would display everything with an Event of "Obtained" filtered within a date range? I could then get rid of my categories "Acquisition Year 2014", "Acquisition Year 2013", etc...

Along the same lines, one of the design hurdles I've been trying to tackle is to have season-long blooming. If there was a way to do a view that would display everything with an Event of "Bloomed" filtered within a date range, ordered by date (and also have an option to filter on category - my categories are my garden areas) what a fantastic visual of seeing where there are blooming gaps.

This feature has the added bonus of identifying plants that are not in "My List" when I attempt to enter an event. Bravo. Filling in the gaps.

dave said:I have added this as a "Growers Report" to the plant database entries. You can see an example here:

Lily (Lilium 'Lion Heart')

Scroll down to the area under the comments and you'll see a growers report from Calif_Sue.

So to post a Grower's Report, we need to manually go in & write out what we want to post? It doesn't automatically take the info. from our plant list? I'm just trying to understand how to use the feature.

OOPS! *Blush* *Blush* Never mind. I already found the answer to my question. Leave it to you Dave, to think of having it automated. Too cool, too cool!

I don't suppose there's a way for our growers report to be private it there ?...........(as she runs and ducks for cover).

MJ, why would you want them private? Seems to not be sharing anything personal, just when/how certain plants perform in your zone - which is one of the purposes of the database. No disrespect intended, just curious.

I would like to use it for more than that. Esp. if in the " Obtained plant " I received it in a trade, I don't necessarily want to put who I got it from as not everyone wants others to see what they've traded.
At this point I'm looking at making a journal for things like that. Just would be nice to not have to.
Otherwise as far as the growing goes no it's not an issue.

I think dave would need to verify this, but I think if you make your plant list private, then any growers reports would also be private.

MJ, a work around might be to simply include your 'obtained' information in your personal comments rather than as a plant event. I use personal comments to note the year I got the plant, where I got it, and where it is located in my garden. I don't think anyone else would find that information useful, but I like to have it at my fingertips.

I've entered a grower's report for several plants, but I don't see any of them anywhere. No "to" or "from" dates were entered because it didn't apply to the situation. Would that make a difference?
