So I am madly adding my plants to my list. I have come across two so far that are not in the database. I am not an expert on the details of classifications and such. I can barely figure out scientific names! Are there expert members that I can call upon to build an item in the database?

So far I have come across one confusing entry. I have Carex comans 'Frosted Curls'. The only 'Frosted Curls' in the database is Carex albula. Mine definitely does not look like that. It does not quite look like the Carex comans generic entry either. Should I just use that one and add a picture?

I had a hard time finding my Butterfly bush varieties. The database spells them with a "j" instead of an "i". I have never seen buddleja/buddleia spelled that way before! This is confusing!

I am sure I will have more questions as I continue adding to my list.

Thanks in advance for any help for this commoner!

Here is a wiki article that explains the spelling of Buddleja.

The entries that you propose for the database always go by the moderators anyway, so if there is an error it will be pointed out to you. @zuzu can probably give you some pointers.

Carex comans and Carex albula are two separate species and both are accepted names, so I've added the second Frosted Curls to the database. Here's the new entry:

Hair Sedge (Carex comans 'Frosted Curls')

Please let me know if you have any other questions. You can send me a tree-mail with questions whenever you wish. Smiling

Zuzu has infinite patience. I have literally broken out in a cold sweat worrying about all those scary words of plants Crying and tree mailed her and she very calmly explains it all so that I actually understood it. She's an excellent teacher and she will never ever make you feel small or ignorant.

I've spent several more hours puttering around the yard with my clipboard, pad, and pen. I know I've missed some plants. And I have so many NOIDS. And then there are those that somehow had a tag, but have one no longer! Many mysteries. Some I was actually able to solve. Others are destined to be NOIDS forever. Or I just name them after whomever gave them to me, for example 'Melody Lobellia' or 'Mrs. Miller Fern' or 'Mrs. Miller Tall Pink Salvia'....I have A LOT of the Mrs. Miller line Rolling on the floor laughing

But from now on when I buy something I will take a picture of it right away with its tag! I promise! Rolling on the floor laughing Sticking tongue out

Oh, and then there are the lovelies from the big box stores that don't turn out to be as labeled!!

And if you know the type of plant, like salvia, and you have a photo but you don't know the cultivar name (and can't get an exact ID in the Plant ID forum), you can always add your image to the generic parent plant. Salvias (Salvia) You can then add that entry to your plant list. If you ever do discover the ID, you just propose to have your image moved to the correct entry.

@Calif_Sue that's nice to know about adding NOID's. I have a few Rolling my eyes. Can you tell me if I am bale to add a catagorie to a catagorie? Say Tet's and Dips to the Daylilies Have catagorie in my plant list?

@Cat, Do you mean adding a tet version of a dip plant to your inventory list? Or do you mean having two separate lists, one containing dips and the other tets.
I just looked at your lists. I think you mean adding a sub category to your daylily lists. No, you can't but of course you can create two separate lists for them.
I created a separate Wish lists that includes all types of plants and then separate categories for each type of plant I have. I guess if I was hybridizing with daylilies it would be handy to have the dips and tets in two separate lists.

Yes, I was hoping to sub categorize them actually. In the Daylily Have List I could then separate them into Tet's and Dip's. Like a folder in a folder so to speak.

Thanks! It was an old sprinkler we just uncovered a couple of months ago, from a couple of owners ago, an old English couple used to live and garden here.
