Some types of Honeysuckles have their season and then they are done. My favorite is Major Wheeler as it starts up in the spring and keeps on blooming till late fall. It always seems to be in bloom.

But I have lots of others also. Like them all as I just love honeysuckle.

Major Wheeler is the one I was going for because I'd heard that about them somewhere - maybe from YOU!

I have never seen it for sale locally. I forget where I got mine but it was mail order many years ago. I now have it in three spots in my garden. All starts from my original tiny plant.

I have Major Wheeler down here too & it hasn't stopped blooming except in the very dead of winter since I got it last year. It has not climbed as fast as Blanche Sandman but it's more full. Blanche has some seed pods on it now but they are still green. I don't have a clue as to how long it takes for them to ripen or if the birds or other critters will get them before I do but I plan to harvest the seed if possible. Just put it on the remind me list Critter.

I might have to look for Coral Honeysuckle (Lonicera sempervirens 'Major Wheeler') since it's not the invasive type! I know the hummingbirds around here would love those beautiful blooms!

There was a tip to make your own moat to add to existing feeders. I'm going to go look for the tip because I've been thinking of trying it out.

Here it is - http://garden.org/ideas/view/X...

Welcome!

I don't usually get many wasps in my feeders but find they will get in them more near the end of the summer?? I found two this year that both got a leg suck in the metal flower surrounding the feeding hole. Blinking One was dead by the time I found it, the other one took a power spray from the water hose to get it off... not sure if it made it or not!

For early spring, they enjoy daffodils; and they seem to be loving the "Thumbelina" zinnias that I have planted in flower boxes on my deck railing, every time I look in that direction there seems to be at least one feeding. (Not a perennial, I realize Smiling )

Crittergarden, I'm not sure now where I got my seeds -- Pinetree maybe? But anyway, here's a link to it on the Burpee site: http://www.burpee.com/flowers/...

They claim that it grows 6" tall and mine are more like 12" (In flower boxes on the south side of our house), but that might be because I have those boxes pretty crammed with plants Whistling

The hummers also use my bleeding hearts (Dicentra) in the spring.

Wheedwacker: I think Hummingbirds love nectar from many blooms, annual, perennial ... whatever they can find! I'd love to see a photo of your flower boxes with those zinnias ... I bet they are lovely!

@crittergarden I found Zinnia Thumbelina in the database, but no photo's yet: Zinnia (Zinnia elegans 'Thumbelina')
