I met this plant in Parque Lage, neighbouring the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro.
It reminds me somehow of a ginger-like plant, its size is around 40cm tall though but a search in that direction didn't lead me anywhere..
The flowers never seem to open completely..
Maybe someone recognizes it?

Interesting, I was looking in Zingiberaceae, but this is in Commelinaceae.

I would never have found it, never heard of that family either Janet, spend hours on that! Rolling my eyes.
