Very cool pics Mark! Thumbs up
The planter in the 6th pic is awesome. I've been planning to attempt something similar for next year perhaps.

Wow, I love love LOVE your planters! I bought a couple pumice planters but they are nothing compared to yours! Is the stone granite? Here's my favorite roller, Bulgaria, in need of a bigger pot:

The planter is granite the other rock is a type of schist that I collect in the area. I love the one from Bulgaria too. I've got some seedlings that have taken on the bluish tint from that plant.

Wow wow wow Mark!! Your rock planters are too cool!! I am trying to plant some rollers on a little piece of wood to be a mini log container, but I think I need to carve out a flatter spot for them to lie in ! Thumbs up
I tip my hat to you.

Mark, I used to collect the rollers, but haven't added substantially in the past two years. They are very hardy. Bulgaria is one of my favorites as well. Also loved the planter.

Patty, beautiful Bulgaria!

I love, love, love, love those stone planters. I'm too big of a pansy to try cutting into a rock, but I use a drill on wood and then chip some pieces out. I'm always on the lookout for interesting stones or wood.

Yesterday I took photo of some of my rollers:

And this is the first roller in my collection, received in 2010. Thank you twit, I so love it, and it started my love of rollers.

Celene, I also grow the rollers directly on rock (The 2 bottom planters are rocks with shallow planting pockets) with 3/4 inch or so of stone dust or gritty soil. You just have to make sure the water drains away so don't put them in a deep depression unless there's a way for the water to escape.

Nice Lynn! Thanks for sharing. I find that people buy lots of these in my nursery. Possibly because I promote them and they're planted on rocks all through my gardens.

Gorgeous rock garden Mark! I grew up in MA and there was a 200' X 8' rock garden at my folks' place that housed most of my semps. It was beautiful and I miss it. I converted part of an ugly water feature that I inherited from the previous owner into a small one but most of the semps are grown in organized beds. More boring architecturally but the plants look happier!

My plan is to create organized beds and leave the rock garden for the artist in me. Now most of my named plants are in pots or plugs. Not much time to build planting beds this year.
