did 70 in 2 flats today.. and a couple of small pots.. forgot how much work this is.. wish there was an easier way to fill flats.. too time consuming.. I use an under the bed storage container to help not make a mess.. but can't stand doing the filling.. pushing each one down.. filling again and again

I ended up with 31 coleus cuttings, planted in yogurt cups. A little over my target of 25, but not by much. Also took one cutting from Verbena Homestead Purple. They've been so pretty, blooming all summer. I've tried them twice before. Though they're supposed to be winter hearty here, my 2 previous plants didn't survive their first winter. So I'm going to try to keep this guy going as insurance this year.

Those verbenas kind of layer themselves as they grow. I took a stem with a few tiny roots already in place at 2 nodes. The roots are only 1/4" to 1/3", but it should do well I think.

Thank you so very very much Karen, for the step by step instructions. I have been debating on overwintering or not. But your instructions made me decide to do it. Also, thank you so much for the Bonide link. When I put in my zip code, it says it is available at Walmart and also at several nurseries around me. So, now that I have everything I need, I am excited to do my cuttings. Thanks a million! See, I told you that you are a sweetheart. Smiling

I guess my brain function is opposite from yours, Allison. I never think to keep perennials in a pot Smiling To me perennial means stick it in the ground.

Your cuttings look great. I kind of like to do them in cups so I don't have to pot them up so soon.

those are the deep cell flats.. my biggest problem is crowding.. your cups would solve that.. but as always I will use these for new cuttings later.. some of the larger leaf ones will have to move out sooner though .. I plan on taking more of the beckwith's gem & walter turner.. and put them in those dollar store small containers.. the leaves are huge.. and would crowd out the trailers for sure.. but I love them so much... was disappointed in the mariposa .. it didn't branch out at all.. just got taller.. now that I took a cutting the plant outside doesn't look so nice.. and I only have one because of it.. kind of bummed.. but the color was amazing

most of the perennials in containers.. are either not cold hardy here.. or boarder line.. I can loose agastache here depending on the winter

Allison, where do you get your deep cell flats? How big are they? I used some from Novosel last year- I think they were about 2" square and deep. They worked very well, only they were too crowded before I could plant out. And not too sturdy, I don't think they'll last long. I'd like to find some sturdier ones. ( And start later).

And yes, Allison, I keep Henna. Usually I find that a plant that's trying so hard to bloom will give up on a newly started one. My Sedonas are all doing that now, too.

oohh I am sooo done pinching!!.. that's it.. I am calling it Rolling on the floor laughing what was pinched yesterday.. it's over.. waving my little flag!!

I have the same flimsy trays as you do then.. I don't even try to wash them and reuse.. if I use them for hardening off.. they seem to break down quick after that.. in fact I ripped one just filling yesterday.. they do stink.. but I bought a bunch a while back.. once they are gone.. don't think I will buy those again.. guess who ever finds a better one first .. we will have to share where we bought them.. but I was looking for cheap too.. sure that's why I ended up with these

Hmmm... Anybody know a source for deep but sturdy "extra deep" cells or trays?

I saved mine. Not sure they'll last through even a 2nd use.

I was not able to grow Sedona cuttings. I tried 2 years and nothing. Must be the house is too cold at night in winter.
