I think the idea of hanging cloth panels on the upwind side of your orchid area both to block the wind and to drip water down to provide humidity is the one that will work for you, be cost efficient and not too unsightly either.

Not sure what your supply situation is, but here in the US we have several types of drip irrigation supplies available. I'm thinking something as simple as semi-porous soaker hoses would work. This hose drips water very slowly through the sides of the hose. If you attached jute or burlap panels to the hose then suspended the hose and panels upwind of the orchids, with possibly weight attached to the bottom of the panels to keep them hanging down, that might 'kill two birds with one stone'. It would both cool and humidify the air and also help to deflect or slow down the wind.

Elaine,
Your idea is really practical. Its working . In summer time our place become like desert, dry with no humidity and at the same time we get hot air blow from all over .... I am setting up drip irrigation system , covering two sides which is 15 feet long x 2 with jute screen , water will drip slowly on the jute screen , hot air is blown to the screen making the inside portion humid a little. . Let see.
Your idea is cool.

Keep us posted, Robert. Interesting to see if it works well enough for the orchids to survive.

We'd love to see pictures of your orchid and your growing area over at the Orchids forum, too.

Nice one, Roby, and it looks like a large wood mount. What is the orchid?
