I bought this plant at Wal-Mart on impulse and it had no label of any kind. I've been looking here on ATP and elsewhere on the net trying to identify what it might be. I think it might be either K. thyrsiflora or possibly K. luciae. Does that look right to anyone? Or not? The mature leaves on mine are 6" out from the stem and 6" across at the widest point. Thanks.

Nice score from Wal-Mart! It looks like Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe tetraphylla) to me.

Thank you Lin. I found your photo in ATP on Google just now . The images of K. thyrsiflora, luciae and now tetraphylla on Google all look the same to me. Is there something in their growth that distinguishes between them that I'm not seeing in the photos? Aside from blooms, of course.

I'm not sure what the difference is. We only have one photo in the database of K. thyrsiflora:

Doubtful it would be the more unusual K. tetraphylla, having come from WM.

Guess I'll wait and see if the leaves get more saturated with red this winter. For now, only older growth leaves are tinged rosy and all the new ones are chalky gray. Maybe it will bloom and give more information.

I have gotten both of those varieties at our Walmart.

I think this will probably prove to be K. luciae and I'm waiting to see if the blooms will verify it or not. If it ever blooms. It's been amazing. From what was essentially a blowzy cabbage sized plant, it's now at 5'3" from the top of the pot or 5'9" from the bottom of the pot to the tip of the plant. However, those buds just keep growing and growing without any sign of them blooming anytime soon.

It finally opened blooms, such as they are. Still growing, but not as fast. At 5'10" today. Here's the top portion and, as best I could, some closeups of the blooms. I think it's K. luciae. Does anyone have an alternative to that based on these blooms?
