That's just wonderful... It's alway so difficult to say goodbye to a cherished piece of the landscape/garden, but it's been my experience that if we can learn to accept and move on, its usually an opportunity to do something creative that might be as good or better. Nature never stands still....we have to learn to go with her, follow her lead. Good job!

Hi Jacquie! I'm originally from Johnstown PA (western part of the state), I've lived here in southcentral PA (Waynesboro) for about 30+ years though so it's grown on me *HA*. I miss the cooler fresher summers we had up there in the mountains.... I guess for some of us, no matter where you live, "home" is where you were born. My friends live in Lancaster County (Ephrata): their last name is Shomo.

Actually, I do not have a formal garden like I was used to in PA. I live on a Christmas Tree Farm and most of my plants are in containers, in the Greenhouse, on the decks, in the fields, along the fence, beside the barn, anyplace I can find some dirt to stick plants in. We have most of the farm in trees but there are gardens around each house and barn, but nothing like I had in PA. I do miss that, but this way it is different and never boring for sure. My son practices law in Lancaster, Goldberg and Beyer is their firm. My son is Robert Beyer. He lives in Lititz with his family. My only grandson is going to school at Univ. of Miami and wants to be a dentist. That makes me crazy,,,,I never expected that. I thought he would be a Marine Biologist ....how wrong was I??? I raise and propagate houseplants of several kinds. I sell on eBay, Etsy and Pinterest, Cubits, anyplace as long as it is online. I enjoy doing it and it keeps me busy since my kids are both full time employees of the State of NJ and I am alone on the farm all day.

So you have a christmas tree farm...how neat is that! Here on my 2 acres, I'm still trying to tame sections (after 28 years!)...with a full time job and no hired help, it's not easy to keep everything as nice as I'd like, but I'm learning to really enjoy my "wildish" garden. Who cares if nobody else does? *lol* My friend and I went to an "open house" at a garden....a large suburban lot...the couple both in their early 60s and retired and both avid gardeners... It was so beautiful, so perfect, so manicured... I have never been more demoralized in my life *HA*.... I liked my garden before I saw THAT!! Oh well.

I personally feel that if your garden makes you happy, no matter if you have a section of poison ivy, then you are a successful gardener.
Everyone I know who has formal gardens have plenty of help and /or plenty of time to work on them. One of my friends here on ATP works her heart out in her garden and that makes her happy. That is the name of the game. I get a great deal of pleasure mowing the grass in the baby tree fields. Here are pics of my work. LOL

You're right about that...a garden is what a person wants it to be. I know I get "looks" when I let things like daisy fleabane and chicory grow in the "perennial border" but hey...the shape and colors are great! So what someone else thinks they're weeds?
