A Cold Snap Stops Everything for a Week

By NEILMUIR1
April 11, 2010

Everybody seemed happy in the sun. Instead of looking down at the ground on their way to work, people held their heads high and were stopping to look at the wonderful spring flowers. Then it became overcast and the rain started; cold days and very cold nights set in for a week. On Monday morning we all awoke to clear blue skies; the sun came out, and everything was suddenly happy once again.

Dear Susan, thank you for your kind comments. I used to used to plant thousands of Canna's when I was on the Parks Department as a mere Apprentice. They were used as "Dot plants" in the summer bedding. Of course the colour had to be careful done to match the colours of the carpet bedding, so that was always a worry. I bought a cheap packet of mixed Canna seed from Thompson & Morgan last year. It had twenty seeds in and after sandpapering them a bit on the seed coat I soaked them for 24 hours. I managed to get 16 nice plants from the packet which I was quite pleased with.
I bring them into the cold Greenhouse in the winter as I have to put the winter bedding in and you cannot do that with them resting underneath the soil.
I found this wallflower growing out of some rubble, so here is a picture of it for you.
Regards from England.
Neil.

Thank you! It's lovely.
I tried to grow Cannas for the first time last year but we have a pest called Japanese Beetles that considers them a delicacy- like me with chocolate! lol They ate the leaves, the flowers, everything- yuck!

I had to look up Marmite, I had never heard of it- there's another article you could write! It certainly looks.... interesting?!?! Whistling

I love salty things too, but don't like the flavor of soy sauce. Or coffee, or beer! Yes, I have strange eating habits~ Hilarious!

Dear Susan, i don't like soy sauce very much. But I was taught in the Army "only people who have never been hungry are fussy!" So I eat anything, if put in front of me.
What no Beer, oh dear! If you do not like Beer in the UK they take your passport away.
Regards.
Neil.

I know. I've tried, but... ugh.
Coffee and beer are the staples of a college diet here in the US. No wonder I dropped out... hee hee.

I've heard that from many military people- they eat about anything.
My husbands family is very food orientated. When they're eating breakfast they're discussing what to have for lunch. At lunch they're discussing dinner. And yet none of them are fat.
Take care,
Susan
