As spring unfolds its true majesty, we gasp at the beauty of spring flowers and rightly so. But there are also some wonderful delights to see in plants, in their bark or in the colour and texture of their leaves.

Neil I'm slowly going backwards on comments, but lovely blossoms on the trees. All right back to bark: I haven't seen those maples but they are interesting textures in the Garden. When we lived in Connecticut we had a 'shagbark hickory' which has bark similar to your paper maple. I miss it. Please don't ask the Latin name, I don't know. Hope that this will be interesting reading with your morning paper. Lucy
