We bought several pepper plants from a farm near Athens, Tx. (Jalapeños, red, yellow, and orange bell peppers). These peppers are about the size of a Ping Pong ball. Are they sweet or hot; deformed or normal? Thanks for any help!

They are normal looking and most likely very hot. Proceed with caution when you eat them.
I garden for the pollinators.

Could be a Jamaican Chili Pepper; they look like that, all wrinkled. Check Trinidad Scorpion.

Pinch off a TINY bit and taste it. I have a feeling that this is Ghost or Scorpion peppers and will be extremely hot. I grew Trinidad Scorpions last year and the only thing I could do with them is to use them in making a hot sauce - apple vinegar, garlic, and peppers.

They won't hurt your hands. Just be sure to wash them after handling the peppers. You sure wouldn't want any of this in your eyes, super- hot or not.

Not necessarily, my wife's hands blister on contact with raw Jalepenos, which aren't even particularly hot compared to many other peppers.

She isn't the only one.

Certainly, if someone is sensitive to things, something that causes contact dermatitis, gloves would be necessary to handle that/those substances. Of course, many people are now allergic to latex, so even most of the gloves commonly available would cause dermatitis at the very least.

I'm with Ken on this one! It looks a lot like my Ghost peppers! HOT, HOT, and did I say HOT!?!?!?

And after looking at it more...My ghost peppers appear to be a bit longer in shape...I'm not familiar with the Scorpions...But I am still siding with them being really...HOT!!! Way up there on the Scoville scale...

And where are my manners...WELCOME to ATP!!!!

Welcome to ATP, Judy!

I have to agree with all the other replies, only a guess of course but it looks like probably a (very) hot pepper. Hope you like HOT !? Smiling

Have some milk handy when you taste it. Milk takes the burn out of your mouth.

Hi Judy.

Welcome to ATP.

Can you satisfy our curiosity? Did you try it?

Or perhaps test it on some unsuspecting victim?

When I dried and ground some hot peppers, some of the dust escaped and made my kitchen a bio-hazard zone for several days.
