If nothing else, we should have a new thread to tell people where we've all gone, and it would be great to post there now and then, but it would have to be on topics other than gardening. Some of us continued to use the Rose Cubit to discuss our pets, but when the conversation kept veering off into roses, the whole cubit suddenly disappeared. Kind of a bummer because I miss all of those pictures of our pets.

hmmmm....well, okay so we had a lot of lurkers there...they were not joining in, Right?...and apparently not into gardening?...so they are not going to be interested in joining in on ATP?....so what do we gain by keeping that thread alive? We CAN, with things of interest about the areas where we live in California, but how many of us are there?...and are we doing it just to entertain people who are not going to join in anyway?...and we can talk about what we would talk about THERE, only right here on ATP....what do we gain?

Sherry, you bring up the reason I won't renew on DG. I used to watch the Ca. forum, and the tropicals forum, among others, but they just turned into chat threads about their grand kids, illnesses, etc, and never had anything to do with gardening. The only thing I watch on that site now is the plant ID forum. I learned a lot from all of you on different forums, and that's why I joined in the first place. I read some others but they didn't apply to me, so I didn't contribute, but did ask a question every once in a while. I don't contibute much here either, but that's because I live in a mobile home park in Santa Ana (read tiny garden), and with my very limited gardening area, plus the water and weather situation, there just isn't anything doing anything worth posting except the weather. I am enjoying your adventures in your new home though. At least that is gardening related. LOL! I did enjoy the political cubit! It gave me a chance to see that other English speakers felt the same as my relatives and myself, and rant about it. Hilarious!

Actually, Sherry, you and Kelli both "unjoined" the cubit back in February 2012, but some others joined just in the last couple of years, though it's hard to figure out why they would. No one has posted there since 2012.

There's not much reason to keep it alive except for those drop-ins. If an average of 65 people dropped in every day last month, they had to have been drawn by something, most likely a Google search for one of the nurseries, the See's fudge recipe, or something else. They aren't joining in the conversations because it's clear from the posting dates that no one's there anymore, but we can't assume that they aren't into gardening. The threads related to gardening aren't there anymore, so they can't join those conversations unless they move from Cubits to ATP.

I originally joined DG because of the seed trading...and then we had the fantastic RU's that drdon was hosting...that was it for me, seed and plant trading. I told don several times that he was far too generous and I think it finally got to him that the people were not appreciative enough for all that he did. When he no longer did the hosting, things fell apart and people left.....then the problems that Dave had after selling DG, there was no reason to stay with that any longer.

If a site is getting a lot of hits but no responses, it might be due to bots. I'm not sure what a bot is exactly but they search the internet.

But a bot isn't going to search the same site 65 times a day on every day of the month. In fact, even 65 bots wouldn't search the same site every day for a month.
