I have a handful of plants this year who are having their ugly FFO. I find it fun to watch them progress as they bloom throughout the season. I will share a few of mine. I would love to see yours. That is, if you take pictures of them....

This seedling starts out opening the night before. It gets dew damage and gets mushy before it even has a chance to open.

I managed to delete all the others I have had! I am sure I will have more Rolling my eyes.

Help me, what does FFO stand for? Thanks.

I have have noticed alot of splotchy and not fully opened ones this year. The cooler mornings have been an issue lately. And, I think I have more plants with thrips than I have had before. Glare Thankfully I have a ton of scapes and buds this season!

Amy, I never thought about photographing damaged or ugly flowers.
Do you use them for comparisons?

Generally when a bloom has a "bad hair" day such as some of these, I just walk right past them and say, " tomorrow is another day!"

Thanks Hazeleyes, Yes some of the first blooms are a bit less picturesque then later blooms I've noticed.

Gerry, I have a handful of new plants this year. I am hoping to take pictures of them to see the progress of the blooms. I thought it would be fun to look back at the pictures ( especially in winter when I have nothing better to do). Caitlin, I think the seedling is exquisite too! It is a seedling I purchased and I am looking forward to fully opened flowers Smiling Kim, I can imagine how nice your daylily will look when fully open. Looking forward to seeing a picture when it does!

FFOs yes, but beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, and the longer you behold, the prettier you may find them Green Grin! I have yet to see any blooms that are "ugly," once I focus on their unique beauty... Lovey dubby

In case this be misinterpreted to mean that a competition for ugliness is hoped for, it is rather a heartfelt encouragement to look until you can see something, perhaps a curl, or a color, or a filament struggling to open its pollen-laden stamen ... there is so much beauty in the endeavor of becoming a daylily bloom. Group hug

Actually, I find my Olympic Showcase clump quite entertaining.
