This grew from a packet of "mixed small gourds." I'm kind of thinking of it as my "Little Shop of Horrors" plant because the stems are so spiny!!

This is a picture of a "baby" gourd on this plant, and on the right is a close-up of the spines on the stem

It looks like it could be a "bottle gourd," from the shape, but I also have some "mini bottle gourds" from a separate seed packet and the stems on those are only very mildly prickly, like most squash, etc. seem to be.

Thanks!

Tee, are the vines that yours grow on really spiny (like my photo) ?

Janet, the photo on Burpee's certainly looks like the ones I have growing (at least at this point). Time will tell how big these ones of mine get...

Thanks for the replies!

I'm not sure they are that spiny.

Here are some decorated: http://cubits.org/gourds/thread/view/32550/

What beautiful examples -- now I'm hoping they DO turn out to be the "spinning gourds" ! (it would be even better if they came off the vine already decorated like that... Whistling )
