How nice to know that Mudbug Madness would be welcome in other people's gardens. Ken, I like your "muddy" daylilies, very nice. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, and these look good to me.

Oh, I would like to add one more thing: from the cross that produced Mudbug Madness, we kept two. The other one is my avatar, that's seedling #1 from that cross. I have never named this one, it is a favorite of our daughter's so many it should be named Daughter's Delight.

This is the first year I have made any crosses! I planted some seedlings this year but they were seeds I bought off of the LA. I know it a couple of years out but I can't wait to see that first seedling Of Mine!!

If I were not way older than I want to be, I would do a lot of crosses, but I need to find the Fountain of Youth first Hilarious! However, since I am going to get Dragonfly Dawn this fall, I plan to try to do some crosses with it in the spring, since it supposedly can put a pattern on anything. This will be my chance to see if that's true. Better stock up on Geritol and hope I can live long enough to see patterned babies. If DD is an early bloomer, I will have to cross it with all my early blooming tets, not sure how many of those I have, will go back and look at all my info. It is just exciting to think about it for I would love to have a lot of pretty DLS with patterns, this will be a first. In fact, I think the only patterned DL I have is a diploid, so that won't work with DD. Maybe I will do crosses with that one, too, something to think about.

I just got Dragonfly Dawn this spring but it came from Florida and had already bloomed. I am certainly going to try it next year though.

The main reason I bought the DD x DD seed cross on the LA was to have the genes of a good patterning daylily. And the first seedling to bloom of 4 seedlings did not disappoint. I had too many daylilies blooming at different times so didn't have any success this year crossing that one young seedling and it's 2 blooms, but I hope next year offers more opportunities for crosses to try to get some interesting patterned future daylilies. Dragonfly Dawn is a remarkable daylily, IMHO. I hope all who have that plant gets some awesome children from it!
