Small zip lock bags of used cat litter will keep ground hogs and squirrels away. They think there is a lion there to eat them. Also, dump used cat litter down any critter holes. They will move. The litter has to be pungently dirty.

The last year that I had a veggie garden before this year, I had a ground hog eat all of my sweet potatoes. I was so mad, Then this spring, well late winter I noticed a ground hog jump in his hole (right near where my garden is) so I went and got my pistol, and a pail of cold water (it was only about 25 degrees out that day) I dumped the water down the hole and was gong to shot it as it came out. It jumped out and ran off and stood there and let me shot him. This year my sweet potatoes are doing great!

this picture was taken in June. Sweet potatoes picture from July

Got my first ripe tomato the other day, and have had 2 more since. I'm going to pick my first zuccini tonight. I got it in a bit late, but it is catching up.

Nice! Thumbs up I should be getting some tomatoes soon also. I have already been eating green beans and cucumbers. Made a batch of refrigerator pickles yesterday.

I get lots of critter problems where I am.. My Asian Pear, Sekel, and D'Anjou were all stripped bare nearly a month ago... clearly not even close to ripe... Then there's been the rape and pillaging of my pluots and nectarines.. There was (non-functional) electric fencing surrounding the orchard when I moved here.. Some years are not so bad, but this year was the worst... And those Asian pears make the most divine sauce too Sad

Iris have overtaken my vegetable bed.. I'm relying on neighborhood family farms for fresh produce. I *do* have 2 tomato plants Green Grin!

Your veggie garden looks yummy!

I looked around some more today and found nothing laying around. They didn't rot away into nothing, they're gone. It was 102 degrees today (in the shade) so I didn't look on the hill as much as I could have.

I only have one crop, but it is VERY susceptible to the human gnome pillaging, and that is my figs. It irks me to no end that every year people will trespass onto my yard and pick at will, then get offended when I come out and tell them it's private property and they are stealing! I have even had total strangers drive by and stop to tell how much they have been enjoying my figs! Glare Glare And yes, signs are posted. Last year they even walked over my iris bed to pick figs. Angry

There are a lot of people in the world who don't have any knowledge of boundaries. The world is simply a place for them, They have the right to what ever they want, when ever they want it, and everyone and everything is here for their benefit. Thank God they're not all like that!

The only ones like that in my part of the world have to do their pillaging at night, poor things. They have been accosted by some home owning, privacy loving brutes and they don't like getting a pistol pointed at them. We are good neighbors here as it pays to be one. I do have an occasional night visitor that goes into my shed that is not locked. I can't figure out what they are looking for. They are gonna get snake bit one of these nights.

Nice Debra!!! I tip my hat to you. I actually think that would be a lovely sign to use! They may, and I mean may, get the point.

Someone stole a neighbors squash and zucchini right out of a front garden the other day. That seems beyond tacky.
