I have a small crab apple, Robinson I planted last year. It looked ok this spring and had a few blooms even. Now the leaves are yellowing and dying off and I thought it just needed more water. We had a very wet summer up until the last 2 or 3 weeks and it turned hot. I noticed it looks like it has spots on it now. Does anyone know what this is or if I can save it? It also has this little thingy hanging on a branch (just one of them I found). I suspect it is a butterfly or something? Anyone know what it is and if it is friend or foe?

It is a long skinny papery thing about 1/2 inch wide and 1 1/2 inch long I would say. It is pointy on the bottom end and attached to the branch at the top, just kind of hangs there. I left it for now.

Someone told me they thought the spots were a fungus... I guess I will spray it with something and see if that helps. It has really went down hill the past couple days. Most of the leaves are discolored and probably half have fallen off now. I won't be surprised if it dies.
