I love your collection too Adam! Lovey dubby Wish I can grow the tree aloes here..too cold here in winter and have no more space for indoors. haay..

Yeah, I would think you may need to supplement lighting for your aloes if indoors in winter..unless you have a good wide south facing window.

From what I have seen with my succulents, it feels the seasonal cold change real well, so they wind down, grows much slower so not much to no watering is required. I think it is also the angle of light they get once placed indoors.

Since you have tree aloes..thought to share some photos of tree aloes I saw in San Diego last year, during Thanksgiving, so admired them! I thought the blooms were from a kniphofia, but on closer look..nope..from lovely Aloes! They are growing near the coastal side, in full sun, mix of good cool and warm temps there always...so lovely....in time your plants will mature and look like these ones!

How do you know which Aloes will grow into a tree? And it must take a long time to do so. I hope none of my hybrid Aloes are tree form. Gives me a choice, move to warmer climate or heat a greenhouse. Both are out of my budget.

Because I have researched which species grow into trees.

Here are some links to get you started.

And since they are going to have stay in an apartment during the winter.
I can only allow them to get so big. I have to control their size though pot size and root pruneing. And I think you can induce branching too I'll have to research how.

A lone Aloe khamiensensis seed spouted Hurray! so that makes 11 tree aloes I'll have my apartment is going to be full in about a decades time.
It will be fun watching them grow into large potted trees. Hurray!

Also for supplemental lighting for all my plants
instead of one plant shelf. I'm going to build pvc frames that I will suspend 6 to 8 bulb HO T5 light fixtures from.

This will be the last tree aloe I get. It's a good thing their slow growers.

I decided to get some more Aloe suzannae seeds. I want one of these. What I like about this tree aloe is the shape of the rosette and that it is a very slow grower. So when I have a good sized potted specimen in decades time I will have a huge feeling of accomplishment.

Well my Aloe pillansii arrived in the mail yesterday. It looked a little dehydrated and the soil it was in was not very good. It didn't have very many roots. But I'll nurse it back to health.

Here are some pics.

Last year I got 5 big Aloes from a friend and from them I took and repotted 12 babies. The babies look a bit like Adam's Aloe Pillansii. Anyone confirm or ID? Thanks
