I love Dragon King pic too. It just goes to show you that a good older one is still very collectible.

I agree I so agree with you. Just because a plant is a new intro doesn't make it great or even a big success. ATP is loaded with thousands of pictures of amazing and beautiful older daylilies. A quality plant, no matter the age, will always produce quality blooms. Hybridizers will always look to these quality older blooms to make new crosses in looking for spectacular new plants or intros.

As Char mentioned, all my early and midseason plants are winding down now. Rebloom will start with in a week or so. I do have a few late bloomers that are just starting to open.

Here is one very close to my heart. In May, I received and planted 'Ruby Lipstck', a John Benz, oldie. I had wanted to include this daylily in my garden for the past several years, but for some reason got caught up in ordering newer daylilies. This year, I acted as an adult, and went back and picked up older dayliliys that I had always wanted in my garden but had overlooked.

RUBY LIPSTICK - FFOE - What really surprised me with this bloom is the lovely gold filigreed edge that surrounds this 7" bloom. A lot of pix do not show this yellow edge.

Ah! Finally a picture that I could capture in the AM of Coronation Day. The color on the edge is yellowish not white like the picture indicates.

I got lucky getting an accurate color on Flight Of The Raven.

Happy Sunday, all.

I have a few new ones to share and some oldies looking great. But I will be reaching the end of showing new photos sometime during this coming week.

FANTASY FRINGE - Planted 2 summers ago, and never bloomed. This year its strutting its stuff. Late to bloom in my garden.

Thumb of 2014-08-10/ARoseblush/a879dc

ELVIS - Believe it or not this is one of my favorite daylilies. But it has had a terrible time this summer with our cold mornings in July opening itself up. You see Elvis has that huge Kaskel best edge. And that edge takes heat to open. The plant has been blooming for 2 weeks, and none of the blooms opened satisfactorily. With temps in the mid 80's today, I finally got a bloom I could post to the forum although it is nowhere up to its exquisite beauty. If I get a better bloom I will post it.

FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH Another Nicole daylily. Late bloomer, really large bloom on tall thick scapes. Very Nice.

BRIDEY GREESON -- I published this photo in the database this morning. This daylily is outstanding in appearance when the thrips don't attack it. Love it

Thumb of 2014-08-10/ARoseblush/2b5c72

AQUADISIAC- This is the 2nd bloom on this late blooming daylily. It is the strangest color daylily I have ever seen. And it keeps changing. Firstly, it's a huge bloom, 8". Secondly, it's scary looking. Nicole's review states. "Aquadisiac sets a new standard for large blue eyed breeding"...so I saved some pollen.

Thumb of 2014-08-10/ARoseblush/c05605

ULTIMATE FANTASY - Top 10 bloomer in my garden this summer. It's like the energizer bunny. Has been blooming for 7 weeks consistently. Opens no matter the cold mornings. The bloom is also soft, large bloom at 7", and sweet rosy eye.

I love all of these flowers. Daylilies just keep growing on me more and more. I picked up 3 new ones yesterday. How do you all keep the plant names straight? I swear I'm going to have to print out a picture of my house and just write in what I put where. I purposely put the 3 plants in very different areas and they all look very different so I will hopefully be able to keep them straight. Next Saturday I'm hoping to go to the local Daylily & Iris clubs sale that they are having and pick up more flowers! I asked my husband how many plants I was allowed to buy, he said as many as I would put into the ground so.....

Anyway, onto some pictures.

These are from my parent's place in Ohio

I really liked the light frills on this one, so one of the new plants I picked up is frilled "Wallingford Woolly Bully"

Vickie, I look forward to seeing your cross someday! I have Malachi as well and I can imagine how fun it will be for you to see what you get out of it.

Alex. I got Elvis as a bonus last year. Going by the pictures out there I assumed I would not like it too much. It has been in a pot and bloomed for me. All I can say is WOW. I was really surprised how well the flowers opened. We have had unusually cold morning temps in the 50's and it still did well. That edge is fantastic and, is the main reason I will be planting it in a bed this fall. I find it funny that it has opened better than some of my northern hybridized daylilies. Must be o.k. with my zone 6 garden Smiling

Terri -- careful - collecting flowers and especially daylilies can be habit forming! Whistling Thumbs up
Yes, a map is very helpful! Also, putting the name of the plant on the blade of a plastic knife with a Sharpie marker, then putting it IN the ground with the daylily is a good idea. Daylilies need divided every few years - and you'll find that knife when you divide the plant - at least then you will know which plant it is, if all other tags get lost.

Amy....'Elvis' is a very special daylily, and very hard to find. Your Zone 6 garden should be just find for 'Elvis'. Zone 4b is just that much cooler. Elvis did add an extra fan this year. Our Summer this year has been cooler than last summer, hence my bloom season was 2 weeks behind normal.

Monday morning in the middle of August, gloriously warm, with not bad humidity at all. Today, I found some blooms that I haven't posted as of yet. So let's see what's new.

CUTTING LOOSE - Wonderful plant. Added a new fan this Spring, and sent up 3 fans with tons of buds. Has been blooming for about a month.

BUDDY'S REDHEAD - Another late bloomer this year. This daylily never disappoints. Blooms are clean. A great red daylily.

DOROTHY LAMBERT -- An old classic purchased from Oaks 5 yrs ago. Some of these older daylilies are planted in the steepest part of my mountain garden. This year I am trying to make an effort to capture them on film. Not always easy, and not always successful. Here is 'Dorothy Lambert' captured at 8AM this morning.

Edited to add additional plants. Hit the wrong button, Now I am 'finished'!!

Terri, welcome to the addiction Smiling Wallingford Woolly Bully should grow great for you.
Cutting Loose and Buddy's Redhead, love the white edges on the reds and purples. Still a bunch of buds in the garden and a few cultivars are yet to ffo. A few recent images...

Aegean Wind, big lavender with wide petals and frequently quilled sepals.

Buffalo Springfield, finally settling in and putting on a show with a soft rose blush and fine yellow edge.

Glass Bead Game, look forward to seeing this one each year.

Rogue, hybridized by Melanie Mason so you know it's hardy, showing a good amount of red fringe this year on the edges. Odd, usually fringe/teeth are better in heat and we have had nothing but chilly weather this summer.

and a few more from the "Dog bed"

Bark At Me, this one is totally unpredictable with it's pinching and twisting .

Francis of Assisi, a shorter front of the bed plant with a saturated deep red bloom and a white edge.
