Rolled up and stashed 3 hoses, one more to go. First 100 gals heating oil in the tank but missed the lowest prices of the season by a day. Paid 9 cents more er gal. Shudder to think how much next 100 will be. Maybe I can mulch myself or my house in for the winter? Like this tipi at Standing Rock.

If you can, you should get more heating oil asap because it just went up a TON this week, about 17 cents a gallon.

Looks like the "S" word is in the 15 day forecast. Must throw some extra mulch on top of the cut off Pink Muhly Grasses before I forget. Who will be in charge of reminding me ?

Should be fine without extra mulch, unless you are worried about frost heave of recently (this season) installed plants.

Pink Muhly Grass is borderline zone 6b/7a and I lost three last winter. Want to do all I can to prevent losing these three.

Mine Pink Muhly Grass didn't survive the winter either.

Our Muhly Grass came through last winter fine despite total neglect, including no mulch. Muddy and CAM, how recently were your plants installed?

We tried Pink Muhly Grass two years running. It never made it, so we moved on.

Tricky thing with grasses that are marginally hardy in our zones is to provide some winter protection that still maintains EXCELLENT DRAINAGE always, through winter and our wet springs. Muhly doesn't like to be disturbed unless it is dormant, say in early January. Here are some links to a garden blogger I follow in Tenn. zone 7a who has grown Muhly for years. Good pictures and growing tips.

The ones I lost last winter weren't planted until last summer. This year, I planted them I May, hoping they will be stronger and will survive.

I planted 3 clumps in Spring or early Summer 2014. Here is a photo of one plant in November 2014 (behind the Amsonia, which is still thriving). I can't remember for sure whether any survived Winter 2014-15, although I vaguely recall that one or two may have. None came up this year, that's for sure.

They were all planted on the steep hill in my backyard, in what was probably well-amended soil and should have been reasonably well-drained, and I probably mulched them.

Evidence mine were healthy and strong this summer/fall. So I'm hopeful they will survive. The ones I planted in 2015 were still pretty much baby plants when winter came, never came close to blooming.

Cam and Greenthumb: save some seeds, please! I'm willing to try again.
That's a beautiful display, Cam.
