Look how these little "goldfish" or "guppy" plants have grown. They are so cute and some are beginning to bloom.

I would hope by now most of you should have your houseplants inside...if not...better get to it. The weather could be changing quickly in the next few days.

It is definitely chillier in the morning, that's for sure! I think yesterday the car thermometer said 54 when I left!

I love my spider plants and here are some of the older ones I have that I cut and propagate. I especially like the dark green Shamrock one I got from Canada. It was only marked as a spider and named Shamrock. I bought it online and what a beauty it is.

Before I get out of here I wanted to show you my next project. I am going to try and find a small string of white lights and put them on my camellia. I think they will make a nice light at dusk for the birds rather than the overhead lights so close to bedtime. Here she is now...awaiting her lighting. Big old lady she is.

Life is "mind over matter". If I d
JB--

Don't even mention bringing plants in! I have a boatload of them to think about...
yes! The nights are getting cool--but the days resurrect the damages.

What i DO need to do is apply Systemic Granules to all my plants so they will be
bug-free once inside. Like....every year!

How are all my Curly Spider babies growing? I took a slew of small AV's to work today.
Hoping they will be all gone when I come in on Sunday....

take care........Hugs...Gita

@Gitagal the Bonnie Spiders are doing very well. They are in the greenhouse and seem happy. Did not loose a one. Hurray!

As you know, the temperature drop will not hurt the plants as long as it does not remain that way for a long period of time. This warm spell is going to end Monday or Tuesday, so you had better get off your old butt and get them in. My big problem now is trying to keep the GH at a consistant temp since the sun is so warm in the daytime. I have to turn the heat on because it goes down to the 50s in there at night without the heater on and that is too cold for those babies for 8 or more hours.

Good to see you posting here. I have not had time to visit DG to chat for ages...just takes too much time. Tell my buddies I said hello. I hope you have a good Fall. I will be looking for blooms on the those red hybrid holiday cactus cutttings you sent me over a year ago. They are all in one pot and looking fantastic. I just hope they bloom. I will send you pictures if and when it blooms.

Talk later. I must wash the final load of pots I have had soaking in disinfectant. Getting ready to put the outside equipment away so I can turn off the water when the cold weather sets in.

OK, now, OFF TOPIC............DOES ANYONE TAKE HONEY AND CINNAMON DAILY FOR THEIR OWN HEALTH? I saw something on Facebook about taking Honey and Cinnamon for some health considitons and then I looked it up on snopes and was amazed what I found. When I went to my doctor for my yearly she told me to take Honey for my allergies. She is a medical doctor from India and I adore her....I was just surprised she said that. I use cinnamon in the GH when I have babies I want to keep healthy but I never took it for my own health. Just curious if any of you are using it other than on your plants. (Cinnamon that is).

@JB good question about honey and cinnamon. I have not used either medicinally but sounds like a tasty combo, and there seems to be some support for their beneficial effects.

What do you use them for on plants?

They seem to keep the knats away as well as the ants.
I read someplace some people add it to their starting soil to keep the soil clean. I have no idea what that means....I have used it for ants mostly. It stops them since the odor takes their path scent away. Nothing to keep them from going around it. Who knows? I am not much help today am I? I promise a better answer next time I sit down. I must find where I read about the benefits. I am in the middle of some serious pot cleaning and putting things in the barn for the winter. Rolling on the floor laughing Plus i have had a dull headache for two days. Must be allergy time coming along. Yes, I took my Honey and cinnamon today.

Thanks, JB. That's very interesting about the cinnamon and honey! Also so sorry to hear about the headache. Thumbs down I have one today too, probably from the sleep apnea. But I have a long-overdue sleep study tonight which will hopefully result in a better, more effective cpap pressure for me, so I can get some much-needed sleep. Today, my goal is just to get some basic stuff done around the house.

I have been watching my little Goldfish Plants carefully because the weather changes have affected the GH temperatures. They seem to be thriving, in fact some are blooming. I took this shot this morning.

Gita, yes, JB has told me. So glad you're able to begin sharing your mutual love of houseplants together on this thread in the MAG forum. I know what a great job you do overwintering your plants.

Hi everyone......good to see you all. Stopped in because I have a question about peat and coco coil. I want to start some cuttings of an old hybrid Holiday Cactus that is part S, x Buckleyii and it rots if I try and start them in water. I was told Peat works better than the cocacoil...does anyone on here use either and if so, for what. The mix would be perlite and peat or cocacoil...Any thoughts????@gitagal, you may remember this old plant. it is Petra's Pink and something happened to the old plant and when we took it out of the pot the soil had something in it I had never seen before. It actually looked like sand, but it was not sand. I had never repotted that plant because it was so old and I did not want to mess with it. One day it just began to drop segments and look sick and droopy. I am unable to save any of it if I can not root the segments I removed and put in water. I keep praying because it was a great old plant.

JB--

I have also seen the "sand look" in soils near the bottom or even in the tray.

I always thought it was some sort of castings--like worms leave--either from an ant
infestation or some other critter that has taken up a residence in your pot.
Have you ever noticed ants or some other bugs in your pot?

It could be almost anything-but the fact that the soil looks like dry sand is most likely
some form of "castings". The mystery is from WHAT??? Could try Google?

Anyone have another opinion? Gita

@Gitagal, I was just going to pop over to DG and get your attention. I have a question about your Curly Spider Plant, Bonnie. There is a discussion on the Houseplant Forum here on ATP The thread "Spider Plant Q & A plus pictures" in Houseplants forum . Would you please read those posts made by Planto and the others and add your thoughts and maybe a picture of your old Bonnie. The one that keeps me supplied. They are discussing keeping the curl in the Bonnie. I gave them my thoughts and what I do, I think you could add to that conversation. Thanks.

The Petra Pink Plant could have had ants but I thought ants left white eggs ....but this would be the castings...hmmmm. Good thought. I did have ants in the birdroom for awhile until we got the exterminator to stop where they were coming in.

Also on the thread about the Spider Plants on the other thread, they were talking about a Green Bonnie called Exotic Angel...have you seen that at work? You will see the info on that also. I will be looking forward to your comments on that other thread. Thanks again.

I have this little plant that someone gave to me and it has looked like it was dead several times. I found it hates sunshine and loves water. Beyond that, it just sits and blooms and looks cute. I have never had such a little plant before and my friend is into the miniatures...I think I could get used to this kind of plant except I forget to water it. I do have several cuttings that are growing and look great. I put them up on eBay to see if anyone was interested. I do not know what else to do with them. Rolling my eyes. Here she is with her teeny tiny beautiful flowers. Isn't she cute???

I know I said I don't do houseplants, and really, I don't! but I just agreed to take someone's Meyer lemon. She's moving and doesn't think she can take care of it during that turmoil.

So I guess I'll give it a try.

@JB you have some lovely plants! I love the idea of white lights on your camelia, too.
