I have been planning a lavender blue bed for years. There are some DLs that have a certain cool lavender blue cast to them, especially evident in bright sunlight. These are the ones I have collected so far:

Catherine Woodbery
Dallas Star

I have a Laura Phlox and Purple Coneflower and Sedum Matrona for companion plants. Anyone else working with this palette?

I don't have a bed devoted to that color, but I have some that I think might fit. Are you looking for sugestions?

Bluebird Butterfly has a nice eye and the rest is good contrast.


Carolina Bound has some lovely shades of blue-purple.

Although sometimes it fades which might not work for you.

Fortune's Dearest has some lavender blue in it and it has teeth


Janet's Magic has some nice colors if you like the ruffled edges.

I really love the color mix in Mapping Alabama. Had to have that one since I live here.

Thank you Laura! Wonderful suggestions! At the moment, all the plants are planted elsewhere, and the ground is being thoroughly dug and re-dug to get rid of all the quack grass! It is one of the first beds I planted many years ago, and I have learned a lot since. Any little bit of quack grass hiding under a rock, a plant, etc. will soon become a solid mass.

Blues Avenue has lavender and some nice patterns


There is always room for some Blackberries and Cream


Broadway Mystique is great for the front of a bed at only 20" tall and a 3.5" bloom


Burgess Artwork is another small one.

I really like a few of Bill Maryott's purples. DINNER TALK and GRAPE PRETENDER are the firs two that come to mind. LAVENDER HEARTTHROB is another that would do well. Perhaps DOYLE PIERCE as well? And of course, LAVENDER BLUE BABY.

Many of my favorite daylilies are purples! I've also seen many gardens and some monochromatic plantings of daylilies before. Since purple as a color group tends to "recede", you might want to consider using companion plants on the opposite end of the color spectrum to give a purple bed that "pop" of color. Using exact opposite such as orange or near opposite in color such as yellow would really make the purple and lavender colors stand out. There are many of the newer echinacea ( hardier than the first wave of "designer" echinaceas, most of which died) such as 'Hot Papaya' and others that would make a good color contrast with purple and lavender daylilies. Another long blooming perennial ( the longest blooming perennial here in fact) is Kalimeris. I've grown both white and blue varieties and these begin blooming in June and go right up to frost - white is taller - about 3' with a 3' spread and the blue 'Incisior Blue Star' is short, compact, and good for front of the border. Some of the yarrows come in peach/ apricot tones too. Good luck with your plantings!

One of my very first daylilies was Pewter Lake an early registration from Moldovan.


Can't believe I don't have an image of it, it is still here and bloomed this year, ooops Anyhow, a very clear blue lavender with a pale blue halo most days. Another one I really like is Noble Surfer...


Both of these would be fine additions to a lavender blue bed.

Very nice! I may include Grey Witch as a darker contrast. Also have VT Vertigo, a late that is just starting to bloom.
