While I was out taking pictures of blooms I saw this enjoying some sage. I figured it's some kind of bee, so I gave it some space!

Yes, it's the snowberry clearwing. I saw the same thing for the first time this year in my yard and also thought it was some kind of huge bee!

I grow Coral Honeysuckle and it's a host plant for them. I've only had the caterpillars for the Snowberry Clearwing once...last year, and I was delighted to have them here! Munched-on foliage I can live with for a time, since I believe in sharing with the butterflies and moths.
