Hi,
This plant also seems to be incorrectly ID'd as Salvia whitehousei.
Salvia whitehousei, a Texas native, is quite different in appearance:

I looked on Robin's Salvias and found that image under Salvia dolichantha, which is listed as a synonym here. Both images in the database seem to match other online images.

Sue,
even though ITIS says they are the same, the plants represented by these names, S. whitehousei and S. dolichantha, are not even close to being the same.

I cannot even pretend to understand how a thing like this happens, but the so-called S. dolichantha, the 'purple Szechuan sage' from China, is a completely different plant and really should not be confused with this S. dolichantha (Cory) Whitehouse synonym as blessed by ITIS.

Perhaps the Chinese sage doesn't have a legitimate, accepted name. However, we do have two legitimate photos of actual plants here that need to go somewhere more appropriate because they cannot serve as images for S. whitehousei.
I propose that all who are more knowledgeable than me figure out how to clear up this confusion, and then I gladly propose that my image be moved to where it belongs Sticking tongue out

Note that dirtdorphins' plant has flowers of a completely different character than the other photo in the database. They are not the same species.

Dirtdorphins' plant resembles Salvia pratensis or something very like it:

But neither of the photos is the Texas species. Where the nomenclatural error arises between S. whitehousei and S. dolichantha, I don't know, needless to say.

Well, if admin agrees, we may have to pull out that S. dolichantha into a separate entry and move the Robin's Salvia photo over. I agree Lori that the two don't even remotely match.

I'll create a separate entry for S. dolichantha and move one of the photos there. There's some conflicting information in the taxonomic databases. The Plant List lists S. dolichantha as an accepted name and as a synonym. ITIS isn't infallible, so I feel fine doing this.
