I have heard that they smell the worst when they first open. Then as the day goes on, they loose a lot of their smell. Known know if it is true.

And not a hint of an odor upon being first open on this one... Not good ..not bad... Just the flower. The flies smell...detect something about it though...it's full strength there...

hi There

I live in South Africa and have a few of these plants, they are not doing to well. Where do they do best, is it full sun?

They grow in full sun or in light shade in very hot climates.
I garden for the pollinators.

I have seen them growing on the sides of hills in sandy soil. So drainage has to be good. No standing water. They need watering more often that way. No all day sun. Maybe 1/2 day sun with waterings. If they turn brown, too much sun, turns red ok. Should grow best for you. Show picture if possible.

Mine has no problem with full sun...although it is slow to acclimate getting outside for the first time.. It likes maybe 3 weeks of easing out.. I gave it a couple of weeks of 40% shade cloth this year and it still Burnt a bit...but to no harm as far as flowering went...it is also growing hanging down a plastic skylight...so it's heat from underneath isn't a problem either
