This sprang up right in the middle of a petunia. I let it grow because I had some plants from Annie's Annuals in these containers last year and I was hoping one of them had reseeded. So far, though, it hasn't produced anything but leaves.

It's possible that everyone else will know this is a weed and I'll look quite foolish, but I don't have a single other plant on my property that resembles this one, and weeds rarely travel alone.

So, is it something good or is it a weed? Have I nurtured it for good reason or have I merely offered aid and comfort to the enemy?

I think it could be Dipsacus fullonum Zuzu, and if it is , than it would bloom next year.

I meant to put the link..
Fuller's Teasel (Dipsacus sylvestris)

It is a beautiful architectural plant though and very valuable for wildlife, but true it self-seeds everywhere and probably is best used in large areas! Rolling my eyes.

It perhaps shouldn't be used in North America at all. It's classified as a noxious weed in several states and is generally considered to be ecologically invasive wherever it occurs.

It'd be a different situation in Europe, of course, since it's from there.
