I, fulva is the species name of a plant in the Louisiana irises. there can be some of the same color & 'copper iris' is evidently a nickname.

Your Lois Yellow is a related Louisiana "species iris" to the Copper. I have found that there are a lot of different colors and varieties of the LA iris that haven't been named (like most bearded iris), but instead are just sold by their color. Such as "Copper", and I have a "Pale Yellow" Louisiana. Your Lois Yellow is a named one.

No. Same traits that make it a species, but different color and shape that makes it uniquely Lois Yellow, and not "Copper."

Okay, that's what I was after. I can't find mine listed in the data base. Iris Fulva (copper) was the only Iris Fulva that comes up, so that's why I was not sure.

I had to ask the database gurus to add my Louisiana James Dickinson, so you should ask them to get yours listed. I doubt many of the LA species, like your iris fulva have been added yet.

I'll be sure to add it. Makes it easier for me to keep track of being able to add them to my plant list. Love that Feature!

All of the Louisiana irises are already listed in the database, IF they are wild species or registered cultivars (through 2013). We have some unregistered cultivars in the database, although it's impossible to have them all, simply because there's no obvious way to find all of them.

I can add Lois Yellow to the database if you want, Cat, assuming you have pictures or information about it that you are willing to add. I don't like to create entries for unregistered cultivars if they are just going to sit empty forever. But, if people are actually growing them and want to have them listed the database, that's easy enough to do.

I can list the info I have. I just acquired them so there won't be many pics until next year. I can add pics of the rhizomes now.

No rush on the pictures . Looking back at my post, it may have seemed harsh, but that wasn't my intent. . We can add unregistered varieties to the database, no problem.

I just don't like to do it unless a member is actually growing the plant and there's some hope the entry will eventually have some pictures and information. There's literally no end of unregistered varieties out there, but most of them aren't widely distributed and, if added to the database, they just become empty entries forever. We try to avoid that (we're still trying to get information added to all of entries for registered varieties, let alone creating a bunch of entries for which information/pictures may not even exist ).

I understand. If I find any (while searching the DB) I try to add pics etc if I have info. I hate to look up something and find none listed. This is the First Place I look for plant info now.
