The Chelsea Flower Show 2011 (Part 3)

By NEILMUIR1
June 14, 2011

Although the first show, The Great Spring Show, goes back to 1862 it was not until 1913 that the show was moved to the Grounds of the Royal Hospital at Chelsea. It immediately took the name of Chelsea, and has been the Chelsea Flower Show ever since. It has always been an international show and with modern transportation anything is now possible at this amazing event. Join me on yet another march around Chelsea.

Dear Charleen, I bet if I turned up at your house I would end up in the nutcracker. You are all so kind to me, I do not know what to say!
I have to take a lot of pictures to please most people, as not everyone likes pitcher plants! It was lovely to put on your very rare American wild Orchids, I think we may have more than you!
If you want any pictures for your carnivorous plant cubit, you have my full permission to take them off and use then as you so wish!
I cannot be fairer than that. No Copyright just an acknowledgement will do!
My dream is to get to America and cook you something, scones would be nice as Charley would like hem as well.
Group hug
Neil.

Dear Lucy, they do keep the flies down for the spectators! They also eat the midges of the River Thames, and years ago a rat was silly enough to go in one as it came up from the river. Goodbye rat!
I have two in my garden as they eat wasps and I hate wasps. they eat hundreds of the things. No wonder they are so big!
Regards.
Neil.

Dear Sharon, I adore them too! This year was exceptional for them at Chelsea, and I have still have pictures of carpets of the Kentucky Ladys Slipper Orchid!
To see and get a picture of the Californian one was a treat for me, although most people did not take any notice of it as they did not know what it was!
I wish you were there with me, I think you really would have had a really great time this year!
The Ladies hats were wonderful as well, and some of hem had orchids on them!
Regards.
Neil.

Every picture is more breathtaking than the one before it. Just beautiful! I'm surprised you were able to get such a clear picture with people stomping on you - glad you didn't get hurt. I love the carnivorous plants too, and I sure wish I could grow them. Thanks for continuing with your Show articles. What a treat! Thumbs up

Neil, finally got a chance to read part 3. I have to keep going back to look at the photos. I have to say that my favorite is the amazing tall orange primrose. What is it called? It took my breath away.

Dear Sherri, I am so glad you enjoyed it! Every plant lightens my day up, just another wonder to look at and enjoy. From the sight of Daffodils in the spring to the wonders of an Acer shedding its bark in the cold of the winter, that is joy.
I leave you with my Australian Bottle Brush plant flowering in my garden in England, is this not beautiful? The Bees think so!
Regards.
Neil.

Dear Allison, some people get excited about Chelsea as it is a Legend! I have won a Silver, Silver Gilt and a Gold Medal from Chelsea, so it is special to me!
Not as special as researching and restoring a Gertrude Jekyll garden, which is a highlight to me.
Regards.
Neil.
