We will see the total when it stops. However with our sharp drainage it may not stick around where plant roots can reach. I bet the shrubs & trees like it. One section of our sweet shrub died, although the rest looks fine. Please don't ask botanical name, I don't know. Perhaps John will.

I haven't tried plants in pots. Rain has turned to missed. We had about 3.5" since Sunday. I was very glad to see it, however I am anxious to get out in the garden. Weeds like rain, but are easier to pull out from the wet ground. Glare

A strange one! The Delphiniums both blue and white have been watered and fed even though it has been dry. The Crocosmia and the Gerbera's have done well as most things have. However the Delphiniums now it is coming up to September have reused to flower at all. I have given them a good dose of Tomato food as the potash normally helps things flower and fruit. The actual stems are perfect and are not staked at all, they have survived the wind and mass rain we have had lately. I have checked and checked them and I can find no disease or anything else on them.
They did get knocked back by the frost and the weather has been extremely dry till now, although at all times they have been looked after!
I find it most strange that they might come into flower so late in the year for us!
How weird.
Regards.
Neil.

I get a strange feeling about the winter when I see that many berries on the Hollies! It is not only them but a lot of other things as well. They claim it is the coldest August in 17 years, and just lately the wettest. We shall see, although the Holly berries going red already is telling me Christmas is not far away.
Regards.

Oh how we need rain. The bayberry bush is doing well, just able to block the view when backing out of the driveway.

Due to the rain and the odd ten minutes of sun thew weeds have gone mad! After the very dry summer we have had that is to be expected. However the unkempt Garden next door has spread the evil Bindweed again everywhere, especially into my evergreen clematis. Bindweed or Convolvulus major seems to choke everything it gets into and if it touches the ground roots everywhere!
So as we have two afternoons of sun over the weekend and a few hours yesterday I have been pulling this rampant pest out! It means I will have to wait till the Clematis has flowered in the spring and then cut the whole lot down to regrow, which is such a shame. But this bindweed must be dealt with as it has also come under the fence and got into Sarah's border, which she was not to happy about!
Once I had got rid of it from there, I had a lot of herbaceous plants in my nursery containers, so they were planted into the clean border. There were three different colours of Red Hot Pokers, Canterbury Bells, Delphiniums, Coneflowers etc. so they have all gone in as I need the nursery containers.
I put some pansy seeds in and they germinated so I let them grow on a bit, but due to the rain and the overcast weather they have not done much in the shaded Greenhouse, so I have put them all in the nursery container. I am growing to Red & Gold pansies I grew last year as everyone loved them, Sarah wanted some purple and orange ones and mother wants blue and yellow ones and some of the other colours mixed. I don't think that will work, but two women against me I don't stand a chance!
They claim it is going to snow by the end of the month, that is all we need. Well I have a lot of green tomatos, so it is green tomato chutney making time.
Regards.
Neil.

I know, that is what I am saying. Snow in Sept. when you still have blooming plants.

Okay I'm in need to some help here,

Thumb of 2010-09-17/cececoogan/43baa6 When I bought these shrubs I was told they were Hydrangea paniculatas. Then I had another person tell me NO they are viburnums. Seeing as shes a Horticulturist I believed her and have been calling the Viburnums. I saw a picture of a plant that looks just like them and she said they were hydrangeas so I told her what was told me. She said they do look a lot alike in leaf form and bloom but the viburnums bloom in spring and the hydrangeas bloom in mid-summer to fall.Like hers is and Mine is. That would make sense to me as I have looked up in my 4 very different books on viburnums and can't find one variety or species that blooms now.

What d'ya think? Hydrangea? yes or no?

Dear Cherie, that is a Hydrangea paniculata but what exact species/cultivar it is I do not know! Viburnums normally can flower in the spring or the best ones in the winter Like Viburnum bodnantense 'Dawn'. But they normally flower from the wood and are highly scented!
Obviously some are not but the leaf shape is different and the structure as well. Sorry Cherie that is a Hydrangea.
Hugs.
Neil.

Don't be sorry. I just want to be able to call it by its correct name that is all. I knew if anyone would know for sure it would be you and I should have asked you for confirmation before any one else. For that I apologize. *Blush*
