Hello Daylily folks, I'm here to ask all of you who post your daylilies to the Database to do a little bit more work.

I've been lurking (and posting a little bit) on your wonderful lively forum for a couple of months now. Although I live in Florida, I also have two gardens (belonging to my kids) in Salt Lake City. So I am 'shopping' for new daylilies for two very different soil types and climates.

Sometimes when I look up a particular daylily, there is only the name, and possibly a picture or two. I always hope for comments from the posters as to how vigorous a grower this plant is, how well it does in your soil and climate zone, if you get re-bloom on those that are supposed to re-bloom etc.

Dave and zuzu have a great contest going this week, where you will get bonus acorns for each comment you post to the database, and also at the end of the week there will be a random drawing for a prize of 250 acorns!

Please take a few minutes to go back and post some comments on those daylilies you grow, for the enrichment of our database and to help people like me who really appreciate growing tips from real people who grow these plants.

and may I say again what absolutely stunning flowers you all are growing!

I would like to add just one note here, I am pretty new to actually growing daylilies with any real effort devoted to it. I have grown them for years and years, but no named cultivars and no special attention given to them. So most of my cultivars now are only one or two years old. I would love to make comments on all of them, but I am finding that it takes about three years of growing a cultivar to even begin to understand the attributes of that plant. So I would find it very helpful if people would include how long they have grown the particular cultivar they are making a comment about. As I grow my plants over a longer period of time I will do my best to add some comments with some useful value.

One thing, though, Dave says this about selecting a winner:

"Then on Friday we will have the big drawing - every comment is a ticket to win. I'll then randomly draw one lucky winner who will then receive a whopping 250 acorns from zuzu! What will you do with 250 acorns? That's your business! Buy shiny new microbadges, purchase tickets in future raffles, give them as tips to other members, or buy a tee shirt with them when we offer them again."

Still, the more comments you manage to post this week, the more times you are entered for the random drawing. I just hope for many, many comments as they will enrich the database and provide such valuable info to everyone for years to come. It's the experienced gardeners' tips that are the most help to people growing a plant for the first time.

Jmho, the database here is the only thing about this site that is not miles and miles better than Dave's old site and the only reason is that the entries there tend to have more info.
