Got woken out of sound sleep with the house shaking,
According to a robot that live tweets earthquakes,
"a 6.1 magnitude earthquake occurred 3.73mi WSW of American Canyon, California."
https://mobile.twitter.com/earthquakesSF

That's a big one!

Two of my cats were in my bedroom and they got so scared. One ran out of the room and the other one kept meowing. That was creepy.

American Canyon is only a little over 50 miles from us, I bet it felt much worse in Napa!

"The CHP may be closing a bridge on Highway 37 in Vallejo while they inspect it for possible damage.
Widespread power outages are impacting Napa, and there are reports of minor damage across the region, mainly items falling off kitchen shelves and stores with broken bottles."

Going to try and go back to sleep now.

I got a phone call from my mother in Massachusetts checking on us..we did not feel it here..or maybe it was because we were asleep at that time.

Watching the news, that shaker lasted for 10 minutes..wow, that is long. Take care everyone...aftershocks...!

Was hoping that Zuzu & CASue didn't have much damage - sounds like you're a-okay! They showed pics of Hwy 12, where a chunk of the hwy split & shifted up 10 - 12 inches. Hope the aftershocks end soon & there are no more big ones... The poor pets - even my cats were freaked!

Looks like some injuries, and gas mains breaking, causing fires.

It didn't last 10 minutes, perhaps you meant seconds. Green Grin!

I would have slept through it... but my DH woke me up & immediately starting looking for news. He lived in the Santa Cruz mountains during the '89 quake & the house next to him had to be demolished; they all had water & showers trucked in for several months... so, he pays attention to quakes!

Me, too. One of our members is less than 50 miles from the epicenter. He reported a rude awakening, some damage, but no injuries.

My niece lives in Napa...they got hit bad....just recently bought the house and have been working on remodeling...doors just installed won't open now.

One good thing...when you live in an area with money...no looting.

Amber says their house has settled / risen / moved 6 inches from the front of the house to the back.
I could be wrong...
and.....

What a shame! Do they have earthquake insurance? Probably not. It's so expensive that almost no one has it.

In view of the possibility of settling/rising/moving, maybe I don't miss the glass roof on my solarium. A strong earthquake could cause some really scary damage in a room with a glass roof. One small pane broke once a few years ago. It sounded like a bomb going off and the falling glass broke a pretty Tiffany lamp down below and scratched up some of the furniture.

I doubt that they have quake insurance. They're hoping for the availability of FEMA, I think...I'm getting the news second hand from my sis-in-law.

I didn't know that you did away with the solarium roof...was this due to the one persistant leak? Very true that that's a scary thing to have maybe with our shaking and rolling. From what Amber says, there were a lot of foot injuries there with middle of the night and people walking on glass, lacerations.

I am very sorry about your niece's house, Sherry. Hopefully, FEMA will be able to help. Sad
