Oh yea of little faith....just wait till I get really cranky....and my restless legs start jumpin'! Predictably, the only thing that helps with the whining is the wining...according to my long suffering husband......

Is Dave's new feature working? I didn't see any "jump to new" thingy anywhere!

It's working, but there's still some tweaking they're doing... I can have 20 on a page, or 100, etc. Thenit jumps to another page. I did notice this morning that I had an unread message and I didn't find it. then I looked up at the top and went to the next page. It's going to take some getting used to! It's still the "first unread" that takes you to new messages.

Stage 3 water restrictions start Monday, I hear. Don't ask me if I'll follow S.A.'s rules for that. Water nazis!

Ugh! Glad we don't have any rats! My county follows S.A.'s rules, but we don't even use Edwards Aquifer water.

Saw this map, which is handy to keep track of the wildfires. The closest one to us are near IH-10, between Boerne and Comfort.

I have that up on my computer. There was one fire in New Braunfels.
We're due for a little rain tomorrow! I've been watering this morning to keep the brug pots from cooking. We came back from the lake Sunday and our grass was crunchy. We watered before we left, but it doesn't take long to dry out, as we're on limestone rock with a thin layer of dirt on it. The grass just can't retain moisture. I've taken out at least a third of the grass in the front yard, and made beds of perennials. In backyard, there's two tiny grass strips, and all the rest is paths and beds and a huge rock patio. I don't know what else we can get rid of in front, and still have our yard resemble the other yards around us.
I'm really concerned about the oaks in our yard. I've never had to worry about them before. The bark is dropping off some of the limbs. Not sure if it's a sign of drought, or what?
Keeping my fingers crossed for rain.....

We've only lost very little oaks in the past from drought. And those weren't watered.

We have fires just north of us and west of us....pretty bad situation. Seems to me the question of whether or not to allow fireworks this 4th of July is......well,......OBVIOUS! That is,....unless we have a sudden development of a hurricane/tropical storm which would bring ample rain........doesn't seem likely at this point. We've lost 4 - 5 pines this year & this morning,....I cut down a massive pine (died) near my neighbor's house (their tree). Our pond is completely dried up.....1st time we've seen this in 13 yrs we've been here. We've averaged 99 degrees for over a week...with several days in triple digits ( highest being 103.........in June)

Our seed-eating birds in the area are being very dependent on our provided food & water.....but hey,....lookin' on the bright side.....
NO Mosquitos!
God Bless America!

Sandi - I've read that when the trees start to shed their bark, they're in distress. The cedars in our yard were almost bald by the end of last summer but they pulled through. You may want to soak the roots if you can.

Yes, the birds are more dependent. I'm worried about the woodpecker nest that I only recently realized was occupied. Usually the woodpecker parents go to my feeder from time to time, but I haven't seen a woodpecker at the feeders since winter ended. I've only seen the male feeding the young a bit since I noticed the nest in the red oak. I'm afraid the baby or babies aren't being fed much. So I took one of those bamboo yard skeeter torch holders and put a little pot in the empty torch holder and filled the pot with food I thought woodpeckers would like. Then tied it up on a fence near the nest tree. Don't know if it will do any good. Okay, so I'm a soft touch for hungry wildlife!

I can't say I blame you! I love woodpeckers - they eat lots of bugs!

Well, I guess I'm going to have to leave water out for my "mowers" out front. I was up early watering and saw a doe across the street sauntering through the neighbors' front yard. She saw me, but wasn't budging. I went into the backyard and left the gate open. The next time I went around the house, I was carrying the base of a plant stand. There's a 3' wall along my sidewalk by that gate. I met that deer face to face, as she was standing on the wall.... She didn't move as fast as I did, but I slammed the gate and ran in to get my camera. By the time I found the camera and got back outside, she was back across the street nudging a fawn up from behind the neighbors' bushes. It was too sweet... I followed them up the street until they went between two houses where there's no back fencing. I got a quick pic and then they were gone. I think the doe was looking for water, more than food. I think she was planning to visit the backyard...
I have a big rock with an indention that I used to fill with water out front, but the dogs found it and the walkers would let their dogs go up into my flower bed dragging the leashes over my flowers to get to the water. I finally quit filling it in frustration. I'll find something else, and leave it out where there's no plants......

We're having lots of birds in backyard, but blessedly....no grackles now. I noticed when we came back from the lake, the trees were "quiet." Don't know where they went, but glad to see them go!!!

How about behind the tree near the curb? Or is that too far from the hose? Or maybe somewhere along the pathway to the back of the house? Just trying to help. Smiling

I'm about to go dump some old tortillas, cereal and old bread behind the house. I'm thinking about taking a bucket of water back there too. Sad
