This weekend my twin sister Ann & I planned to visit Belsay Hall gardens to see their snowdrops. All last week was frosty in the morning and bright through the day, so I was a little dismayed to wake up on Saturday to overcast dreary dampness. We looked at the forecast and decided to wait and go on Sunday instead. Good decision!

We had a wonderful morning walking through the gardens, not many perennials poking through yet, and no buds on the trees, but the snowdrops were at their peak. All the flowers are a little late this year after the worst winter we've had for 30 years.

Here are some of the woodland drifts.

Some lovely single snowdrops too.

We're hoping to visit Howick Hall for their well known snowdrop walk next weekend. The garden there was recently voted garden of the year, and I did an article for DG on it. So fingers crossed for the weather..

Sue
