Anyone in tx know of a determinate heirloom tomato that grows well in TX, and tastes good too. I'm looking for a medium or larger size.

I always thought all the heirlooms were indeterminate...

Since they grow well, in HI, how can they not in TX?

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum 'Taxi') is a determinate heirloom tomato that we grew this year. Very, very small plants absolutely loaded with the dullest flavored tomatoes you've ever eaten. But you sure can't complain about their vigor and ability to handle our climate.

Well........I'll let you know how mine from HI turn out. Still waiting if anyone knows about them.
I looked up half a dozen description's from different companies about taxi after you said that. Not one said it tasted good, one said sweet, one mild, one non acid. In other words........blah? That wording is something to watch for, like starter home for real estate

Mild is the way I'd describe it. I like a tomato to have a good tomato flavor and Taxi is completely missing it. Still, it was the very last tomato still ripe outside and so I was glad to have it when I had it.

How are your second season tomatoes?

Mine are only about a foot tall. Just now starting to grow.

When did you set them out, and how tall were they then?

I tried to take a picture of my tigerella, which has three small tomatoes. Also, of my one determinate tomato called mountain pride. But, my tablet must have got hot, and refused to budge.

I'm going to start a row of determinate tomatoes each month next year, (provided the one "test" determinate i planted this summer sets fruit this late in the summer, and plant a row of indeterminates for fall harvest IF I ever get any tomatoes from them this fall. So far, they keep growing, but haven't produced much.

We planted our tomatoes maybe 10 to 14 days ago. Tried to get them in as soon as possible but man, it's been so hot that I hated to put them out. But they're doing okay. Your tomatoes plants look really good.

I thought determinate tomatoes did not need staking, so imagine my surprise after it rained just a little, and my 3' tomato plant was laying flat on the ground. I have now put a cage over it.

Homestead and Oregon Spring have done well for me in the past.
