I was perusing Facebook and someone who I believe to be an Asian seed collector had a picture of a "new species, not yet described from Tibet." I think it does look like lilium but very interesting as the leaves are whorl like and it appears to have a single bell shaped bloom. I have no idea how big it is at all.

It's pretty and quite delicate looking. I wonder if it has any fragrance.

That's Lilium medogense, according to Bjønar Olsen, another seed collector living in Chengdu.

I have first year seedlings now of Ll. henrici, lophophorum, souliei, speciosum var. gloriosoides and Nomocharis ferreri, grown from his seed.

Never believe that you are always right, and always keep an open mind. (People say they are open minded, but it's rarely the case.) Realize your biases (no one is without them) and adjust accordingly. Never stop learning. Learn from EVERYONE. Critical and logical thinking requires organization and practice. Meaningful pros (and posts) require critical and logical thinking. Technical writing is a skill, but you don't need to be technical, just objectively definitive (no beating around the bush).

Well, those are some of the words I live by that are pertinent to your query. My thought life is very important to me, and it spills over into everything I do. It's a lot more than just stopping to smell the roses. But even if people were to only smell the roses, the world would be a lot better place.

I'll get off my sagebox now.... I mean soapbox. Big Grin

What a surreal picture - I wondered if the lily depicted was real!

Obviously, the flower size is way out of proportion in that particular photo (being so close to the camera lens), but anyone should recognize that, so I don't think it was purposefully done to mislead. I've seen other pics of the species, and the flower size is quite normal. The unusual shape is on the money, though, and considering its normal haunts, it's not delicate at all in the sense of being easily damaged.

It seems to me there so many more new species and variations coming out of southwestern China now than ever before. What's going on?
