JB--here is my issue---

I git an e-mail saying I have a reply (ATP) from you. When I click on the link provided--
there is nothing there to read, I alsi went to my ATP inbox--and there was
nothing new in there either.

This always happens! HOW and WHERE does one go to read a Tree mail???
G.

This lady is a member of DG and trying to become an active member of ATP also. Is there anything we can do to help her. I have no clue what to tell her.

I feel sure this is something very simple, but I am not simple enough to figure it out. Can someone help me tell her where to read these kind of notices .....I just go to my inbox ....not sure if she tried that. Think I had better ask her. Your suggestions would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Click on the "envelope" in the far-left top of the ATP Home Page.
It will be red if you have any unread Tree-Mails.

Or, click on the Subject of the email (middle-left top).

Thumb of 2014-08-29/RickCorey/ae84c0

If the envelope is not reddish-pink, and there is no row that says you have an updated personal Tree-Mail, either it never got TO your Inbox, or the system thinks you have already read it.

You can click on the envelope even if it is not red.
That will bring you here:

Thumb of 2014-08-29/RickCorey/4cac62

If there is still no updated personal Tree-mail, click "Access your full Tree-Mail Inbox.
(It isn't "full", it's your entire Inbox, read and un-read alike.)

I'm a little confused as to why there is a link to DG in your thread:
(Read more: http://davesgarden.com/tools/m...) ?? If your friend is clicking on a DG link it will not bring her here to ATP.

JB, Invite your friend to ask her question on our 'Ask a Question' Forum. That way she will have an opportunity to chit-chat with us and she can get to know us more quickly.

I told her that again yesterday. I do not know what the problem is with her but could it be she uses a tablet and is not seeing what we see? I will talk to her again over the weekend.

Gitagal is probably trying to read the tree-mail via her e-mail message from ATP telling her that she has a private message from you. When she clicks on "Click here to read it" I'm thinking it brings her to the ATP site where she first must log in to be able to read her private tree-mail from you. She is a member here: http://garden.org/users/profil... and has logged in and posted before. I may be wrong but I don't think any of us can read our private tree-mail messages without logging in first; the e-mail from ATP is just telling her she has a private message and gives her a link to the ATP site where she has to log in.

That is why I think she is using a mobile device instead of a PC. I never log in unless I am on my phone or Kindle to read ATP things.

@Dave here is Gitagal's reply to me today. I will send her anything you suggest to help her. Thanks.
@PlantladyLin, I sent her your comment.

JB--I clicked on the envelope and there are only 7 entries there.
None of them are new...

I must be doing something wrong.

Besides--there is no longer a sign in thing for me--so i am assuming I must
be always signed in.
Maybe that is the problem???? I cannot get to anything new b/c I do not sign in.
BUT WHERE? There used to be a sign-in place at the bottom of the left hand column.
It is not there any more.

JB, I'm not sure what you mean by "she is using a mobile device instead of a PC". By mobile device, do you mean her cell phone? She should be able to log onto ATP with her cell phone if it has internet capability.

Green Grin! I'm laughing at myself because I am sooo technically challenged!! I have a cell phone but it's not a smart phone; I don't have internet access with my phone LOL. I had a cell phone at one time that was internet compatible but it was one of those (like most of them nowadays) where you swipe the screen to get anywhere. I got so frustrated with that phone! When I was out somewhere and wanted to make a call I'd try to slide the screen to get to the name/number I wanted and it would always go past it, so I'd try going backwards .. and it would still go past the name I was trying to get to, even when I'd try moving the screen really slow! I tell you, I'm not a cussing person but that phone made me want to cuss and scream! Green Grin! I finally stuck it in a drawer in the kitchen and went to Best Buy and bought a little flip phone. She should be accustomed to the D-Mail system over at DG. Our tree mail is designed the same way and the two probably work nearly the same. She's confused because she has no new mail? I don't know what we can do for her.

@Plantladylin, you are so funny. When I got my first smart phone I got so mad at it one time I gave it a pitch and I was in the bathroom at the time and it went in the toilet.....that taught me an expensive lesson. I soon decided to get with it and learn to use it, my flip phone did not give me my emails for my stores, so I had no choice. I did love that little flip jobby though. (big sigh) I need to ask Dave if they have a big sigh icon I can buy. I do a lot of big sighing.... Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

When I say mobile device, I mean't a Kindle or a Nook or a smart phone. She said she could not find anyplace to sign in so she figured she was already signed in. We will get her fixed I am sure, it is difficult trying to communicate on both sites at the same time, thanks to firefox it is possible.

This may be a dumb question, JB, but did your friend actually look at her most recent Tree-mail to see if she had really read it? Sometimes when I get the red "new system message" icon lit up, my fumble fingers mess things up so it doesn't show anything new when I finally click on it properly. Rolling my eyes.

And I'm with you: we need a "Big Sigh" emoticon! Hilarious!

Yes, I access ATP with a desktop pc, a Kindle Fire tablet, an iPad, a smartphone, any device should work. Maybe she isn't logging in first, as someone suggested.

I am being patient and trying my best to help her. We will see what happens. I am having problems today because Windows did an upgrade again and when it does, my PC goes absolutely mad. I now must see about all the updates, etc. before I do another thing. I hate windows.

JB, why not suggest that she log-out of ATP on her mobile device and then log-back in and see what happens? She can find the log-out in the very last line on the right at the bottom of any page on ATP.

It's all good. Thumbs up
