I don't think too many of these colors are introduced because, even though I like them, a lot of people don't want anything in the browns. Often when people buy my "grab bag" they say, any color but brown. I don't know why, but I sure like the earth tones.

That brown one is an absolute beauty Marilyn! Did you get it from a vendor? If so maybe it is in their catalog, or they may know what it is if you send them a picture. I have noticed that there have been a lot more browns introduced lately. How long have you had yours?

I love the browns and earth tones. However, I am in a minority in this area. They are referred to as 'weird' colors by garden visitors and even in the CAIS one member said 'any color but brown, why would anyone want a brown flower?' There are not many plants that produce earth tones and irises do it with great results.

I absolutely love the brown Irises. It was an old brown Iris that I found growing at an old homestead, when I was a child, that started my interest in Irises. I found it while bicycling out on the dirt roads made in preparation for development of a meadow that was destined to become a subdivision. I dragged my Dad back to it that evening, and he dug up a clump and brought it home to be planted in our garden. I loved that Iris -- and I still am partial to those *old* colors. Lovey dubby

Love glowing browns. This one is a NOID and I have no idea where I got it. Found some old payment receipts from 2007 and 2008 and saw some of the Iris I bought then (and winced a lot at how many are lost). One on the receipts was Copper Classic and I thought I got lucky on the ID, but what I have looks a lot darker.

I potted some rhizomes this year. Want to let them bloom next year to make sure I labeled correctly. Once they are confirmed and you are ready for TB again, one is yours, Bonnie.

It looks right. Yes it is slightly off, but I attribute that to sunlight, or lack thereof, and soil content/moisture/nutrients.

Debra I have Copper Clasic, and I think that you sent me some of your brown one, so If they are the same, I should be able to tell you if they bloom this year. It looks right, mine seem lighter, in the picture, but in real life, they are not this light, as I took the pics in full sun.

Unfortunately I bought so many iris last year from so many vendors...and I didn't think to number the NoIDs and record which ones came from where...so I cant' trace the source.

Tom, as I was poking around a few websites last night I looked at Copatonic and Rustler...but the beard on Copatonic is too yellow, my NoID's beard is a russet color. The flower color is probably close (maybe a little light) because the Copatonic photo was taken in full sun which washed it out a bit....and I can't remember why but I decided Rustler wasn't quite the same either although it was very close! I checked a couple of the Rustler 'children' and they were also close...but none we quite right. As I've mentioned before, I love a puzzle so whenever I find a seller who carries the older varieties I enjoy scanning through...that's how I noticed Rogue and Leslie Dawn.

Anyway thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions...keep them coming, and if I figure it out I will share it with all of you! For the time being I have dubbed it 'Mystery Brown' , not too creative but better than 'that brown NoID' don't you think?

...and Debra that brown iris you have is another pretty one (I like the browns too)! I'll keep my eye out as I'm searching to identify my Mystery Brown NoId...if I see any likely contenders I'll send them your way.

Marilyn,
Love the Shanny Orange ! Do you have this or do you know who carries this iris?
I have a lot of peach/orange and every time I see one I want it. But then I do the same thing with the blues, pinks, purples, whites, yellows, reds, tans, browns, lavenders, blacks, and all the others colors that I can't think of at the moment. The only ugly iris is a dead iris! Thanks again for the heads up on Shanny Orange!

I first saw Shanny Orange on eBay (by Williamson Flower Farm), but it was also listed on their website. The really great photo was on Flicker and I found it on a web search because I wanted to see more examples of it.

It's listed on the website for $7.00 but it turns out I was wrong. Jim's website is closed for the season. Here is the page for Shanny Orange: http://www.williamsonfarmflowe...
His home page (where it says he's closed for the season) is http://www.williamsonfarmflowe...

You can still buy it from him through eBay. It's listed on a Buy-It-Now listing...but I'm not sure how long before it expires.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TALL-B...

The thing that is confusing me is that the eBay listing says the item is coming from Tennessee, but last year he was in Oregon...so I don't know if he moved (which is unlikely), he is selling for someone else, or some other thing like...I'm losing my mind!!! Hilarious!

Anyway, I'm glad you like it...check it out online and let us know what you decide! Smiling

My first bloom on Capatonic, in 2014, not sure with the lighting if the colors were captured right.

Marilyn, Thanks for going to so much trouble for all the info on Shanny Orange. I'm not a very good eBay buyer so I'll probably wait on this one until next year and try to get it directly from Williamson farm flowers.

For those who like brown iris take a look at Breezeway Iris Gardens and look at "Around We Go" I think its amazing!
and I'm glad they are closed for the season because I'd be ordering.....

Thumb of 2014-09-06/Phillipb2/6fe503 could this be Edith Wolford?
The falls look a little more blue than Mary Ann's picture. I found this picture when I was looking for a picture of Copper Classic.
It's not the same iris that I previously had mislabeled as Edith Wolford (now a no-id) at the beginning of this thread.

Marilyn and Barbara, Shanny Orange is a Mark Grumbine iris. He lives in Cabot AR, and sells his iris through other vendors. He does not have email and is not computer literate so it is hard to get in touch with him sometimes. But he has many, many great irises. He is bringing me Little Lu Lyn and Christophers Curtain Call either this month or next. He recently gave all of his irises to the CAIS except the ones he is currently working with. He has taken his signs down that were on the highway and a lot of his garden has gone to grass. He, and his lovely wife Bessie, are in their eighties and they are really slowing down. She recently told me that their sons are not interested in the iris business so it is just going away. I am afraid many of his creations will go away as well. Anyway, I can get a Shanny Orange next spring if you have not gotten one by then. Just don't forget, like I will, and remind me early. LOL
