This came as a bonus rhizome in an order of Achimenes a few years ago. It was labeled as 'UNID' which I assume translates to 'unknown identification' in re the cultivar name. I'd guess it was a hybrid cultivar whose name was lost rather than a species plant. As a plant, in some respects it is a bit easier to grow than most Achimenes. It's not subject to leaf discoloration; it's more tolerant of high temperatures; it's more forgiving if it gets to dry between waterings. It also makes a really nice foliage plant for most the growing season. The leaves and stems are really soft and late in the season it tends to collapse under its own weight - and that's provided the squirrels haven't already decided to use it as their daybed which they've done a couple of times. 'Unid' is blooming now.

Your plants look wonderful, Donald. Some NOIDs are simply spectacular.
I garden for the pollinators.
