Thread OP

The Iris Society of Dallas is going to be having a sale next Saturday. I've been looking at their proposed offerings and I found ATP and the iris database when I was trying to find more information about the irises. For my first post here, I'd love it if you could give me some more information (or pictures!) for:

Absolute Treasure
Aleutian Islands
Baltic Sea
Barbara Jean
Cool Mist
Deep Purple Dream
Doctor Who
Polka
Psychic
Rum and Coke
Sing to Me
Soft Side
Strut
Sunny Butter
Toronto
Uncle Jim
Water of Life
Wicked Good

Unfortunately, my eyes are bigger than my available space, so I'd appreciate any feedback y'all could provide about any of these irises. Just FYI, I garden in Dallas (8a, alkaline clay). And for those of you who also love roses, could you suggest which ones you think would look best with my roses (Abraham Darby, Francis Dubreuil/Barcelona, Belinda's Dream, Thomas Affleck, Souvenir de la Malmaison, Hermosa, and Kronprinzessin Viktoria)?

Welcome Meslgh. I have grown Polka, Absolute Treasure, Baltic Seas and Rum and Coke and would recommend them. Have you went to the data base here on ATP and looked at pictures that may be available there? May help you in deciding.....

Absolute Treasure is great if you like blue iris. At 42" it is taller than I like.

Hi meslgh! Welcome!

I can't help you with photos -- I don't have any of those on your list. But if you can't find them on the database here at ATP, try the database at www.davesgarden.com. And if you can't find them there, Google each Iris by name -- most of them will come up there. Good luck -- and have fun at the sale!!

Here's Absolute Treasure in my garden. My pictures do not convey how lovely this really is. I think it would look lovely with many of your roses.

Welcome! I have Toronto and Wicked Good. Both are really beautiful. Toronto is a stronger grower then Wicked Good, but I wouldn't say that Wicked Good is a slow one. If you click on the button for the Data Base on the left side of your screen, you can type in the names and you should be able to see most of these pictures, along with a lot of information about them, like the season that they bloom in (Early, Mid-season, or late season) Height, etc. If you click on the pictures they will enlarge. I looked up a couple I didn't know, and found pictures. Uncle Jim has no picture though, but a discription. They all are rather new varieties, and you should be able to get a nice collection started.

Welcome! With regard to companion planting with the roses, do you want complementary colors or contrasting colors? Do you like pinks, browns, blues, purples, yellows? There are so many choices, narrowing the selection criteria will be helpful.

All Smiles is a Sutton Iris isn't it? Their iris farm was back on line this year in a small way but growing fast. I emailed him to get the variety I wanted and he sent it. You can email him to see if he is growing it now. I got the little ones listed under SDB's Golden Apricot and Naples Syrup (supposed to rebloom several times a year).
