I have wondered about slugs too. All they are is shell less snails.

I'm collecting recipes for a feast for when the snails come.

I would give anything to like seafood, but I can't stand the stuff. My hubby eats all that sort of squishy, revolting stuff.

Snails and slugs are one of the corollaries under my "no guts" rule of acceptable foods to put into my mouth. Hilarious!

But I'd be more than happy to raise slugs to sell as "shell-less escargot" if there was big money in it... Whistling

Picked a nice bag of tomatoes which I am gonna eat up myself. Production has slowed way down since it is so late in the year.

We had BLTs for supper... and bought some really, really nice sweet corn in Marinette, WI that we had with the BLTs. Yum, all the local fresh veggies will be gone way too soon up here...

Ouch, my beans and cukes are done ! Brought in quite a few underripe tomatoes today to ripen indoors, pulled all my onions, and picked a bunch of hot peppers for making poppers, pickled peppers, and salsa -- since it's supposed to rain tomorrow. We're pretty much finished with the wooden framing on the ends of my hoophouse so now all that's needed is to put the doors on the ends and cover with plastic -- not sure I got things planted early enough, but have lettuce, mini cabbage (Gonzales), turnips, kohlrabi, broccoli, carrots, onions, chard, spinach and mache planted, and around mid-October will plant some of the Creole garlic in there as well. Definite learning curve as to when to plant and how long things will survive -- but I didn't figure out those details for the main garden in one or two years, either! Our highs in the coming week are only supposed to be in the 50s, but no mention of frost yet so that's a good thing!! Today was beautiful, around 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky again... Smiling

I will have a second batch of cantaloupes and just harvested (and cut/ate) the first one yesterday. It was not quite as sweet as the ones harvested in July but was still good. Life is good! Hurray!

That's a nice-looking cantaloupe... except it looks nothing like what I think of as a cantaloupe! What variety is it?

And, Happy Birthday, Ken -- hope you have a great day! Smiling

I am sorry, I don't know the variety. As the cantaloupe matures, it will turn the typical color (yellowish) and have the typical skin pattern of store-bought cantaloupe.

I still have a couple cantaloupe left on the vine to ripen, and then that will be all for this year. The watermelon are going crazy now. I have to learn to plant fewer of these seeds, I can't possible use all of these melons. I've found homes for most, but a few of the cataloupes have gone bad.
