Just a heads up for all of you, 'Plant Week: Hardy Cacti and Succulents' is coming up Sat, October 4, 2014 to Fri, October 10, 2014
Would be great if some of us could contribute articles/ideas for this week. Put your think and writing caps on and see what you can come up with. When you decide on what you want to write about let Trish know.
http://garden.org/barn/events/

This is another way to contribute, by making comments to your favorite succulent plants. Be sure to make them informative and helpful to others wanting to know more about that plant.

This 'Top 25 Plumerias' was done for Plumeria Week.

And 'Top 25 Coneflowers'

'Top 25 Daisies'

Don't forget to also give thumbs up for the database entry. you will find the thumbs up on the entry page on the upper right corner where the 'star' symbol is.
Also be sure to give thumbs up to your very favorite succulent photos.

I am looking forward to this week. I might do a sedum article, just have to think about what direction to go. An individual plant, ground cover types, upright/tall types?

I think I'm going to list all the hardy plants that I have and what I do to over winter them here in Seattle (although since many of my plants haven't gone through a winter yet, my article will be a futuristic fantasy I guess Rolling on the floor laughing ) I tip my hat to you.

Over on the left side of your screen, towards the top there is a link for Ideas and Articles. Just click on that and follow the instructions. It really is easy to do. After you submit it you can treemail Trish/Dave to let them know you have submitted an article/idea. Trish is Dave wife, co-owner of ATP. Just type in trish and address name will pop up in the address bar of your treemial.

Nothing like Hope Springs Eternal I do the same thing with coleus every year.

I have a few people that got cuttings of my Hardy opuntia and have said they have not gotten blooms and asked how to get them to bloom because they are growing them inside all year. If I do the article I will add how to force them to bloom inside.

Cinta yes please - You gave me several pads, and none of them bloomed this year, but they haven't been indoors - outdoors in pots. I'm going to plant them in the ground I think - if I get to it! Thumbs up

Greg if you have them outside you should get blooms at least by the 3rd yr as long as you do not cut the tops off. I found when I cut the new growth this year I do not get the blooms on that plant the next year.

The other issue may be you are getting too much moisture in the winter. They need to be dry and cold. Maybe this winter cover them if you get rain. Put a blanket or garbage bag over them so they do not get moisture for 3 months during the winter.

Thanks Cinta! I was planning to plant them in the ground, but then I am not able to control moisture as easily, so thinking I'll keep them in their pots and make sure they are kept dry!!
I tip my hat to you.

Okay I have my article drafted. I need to figure out how to insert the pics. I saw in the "Question forum" there is some little tricks that are no longer available like pics on one side and description on the other side.

Will one of you good intelligent ones raise your hand to critique before I submit next month. I will be forever in your debt. I would be a fool to think I know what I m doing and do not ask. My mother prided herself as she would say.

"I did not raise any fools and there are no flys on my kids".

Poor woman did not know how traumatized I was whenever a fly landed on me when I was 5 yrs old.

It was a long time before I realized she meant her kids were smart, clean and looked good so flies were not attracted to her kids. I kept thinking if she found out a fly landed on me I was dumb, unattractive and smelly and she did not know I was NOT smart, cute and clean. I guess I was pretty dumb at 5. Rolling on the floor laughing

Oh those old saying the older generation had going on....Wear clean, no holes underwear what would happen if you were in a accident. Like the EMT would not treat you if your underwear had holes in them. Rolling on the floor laughing

Okay I will stop I am babbling too many cups of tea this morning. Crying

Oh Cinta, reading your above post was priceless. You had a wonderful mother.

On the photos. I do not know how to do the text wrap thing, don't know that we can do that now with the simplified software.
I don't think any of us can critique what you have, unless you put it into a treemail. Or have Dave or Trish look at it.
You can use BB code to do left, right or center for the photos, and no more that two on the same line (abreast of each other).
Hope I was some help. Smiling
