Went to Molbk's nursery today for the 99 pansy plants. Took pictures of the last of summer plants.

Love this time of year. Seems like the colors are more intense with the sun lower in the sky.

Julia, you are right, it is a very busy time of the year especially for produce gardeners. I would send pictures of my fall gardens but we had a couple of hard frost a couple of weeks ago. The few things that are blooming are surrounded by things that look terrible from the frost so they don't make a very pretty picture. I sure do like yours though, especially the second picture with potted succulents! Drooling

Hi Susie,
Not even close to freezing here but it will come soon enough. Those containers are at a garden center. Wish it were mine. I've seen lots of your beautiful pictures maybe on the perennial forum. Thanks for stopping in.

Lovely flowers and arrangements. Hard frost has taken all that I have in my garden. Am getting the dahlias ready for digging, potting up iris, lilies etc. Glads are cleaned up and drying a little more before storage. Talk about busy.

I have been prepping for winter as well. We don't get a serious frost until end of October or first part of November. I have started pulling annuals out of my containers because I hate to pull mushy slime. I'm still busy planting things as well. Could not pass a few bargains at the nurseries. We have had a wonderful warm summer, one of the best.

Ours started great then became one day after another of rain. But it is just nice and cool now with a breeze so I am planting the new peonies that just arrived. As well as spreading the mulch DH ground up for me yesterday. It is sitting there is a garden cart just cooking away. Would make great compost.

Julia, thanks for keeping us going with your lovely fall photos. My garden is a total wreck, but here's some beautiful fall color we found out hiking up near Baker Lake today:

What great pictures. The colors are so bright. A great place to hike. Is it just out and about, or are there hiking trails.

Nicely maintained hiking trails in the Mount Baker National Park. I think it was a 7.5 mile hike to a junction to go even further up toward a glacier, but we only went about a mile or so in then turned around. Slowly working up to longer hikes.

OH Deb. A baby chicken?? Adorable. Are your gloves to keep the human smell off of it so its Mama won't abandon it? Or can they hurt if they peck.

Neither, Mary. I was just out gardening. Even when the hens peck me it doesn't hurt, just kind of startles. I have one hen who follows me around while I am in the yard, getting in my way to nab all the worms and bugs I turn over. I don't mind sharing.
