I will have to get my manual out. I have trouble photographing yellows and the camera always seems to focus on things behind the blooms.

Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus. There is another bloom two days' old on the right.

Glen,
Set your camera to "spot" focus, that should allow you to focus on the bloom. I had that problem the other day trying to photo a caterpillar.

Seed, I am also trying your recommendation of photographing them at a distance.

Ann, I forgot to say the greenness of the daylily foliage is due to the alfalfa application I did for the first time this season. It has been a minor miracle with me mainly on clay.

Beautiful Glen & I love that Emu bush; noticed it in your avatar. Cool!

I did alfalfa for the 1st time this year too but later than you Glen. It does seem to have made some difference. I think it's time for another application.

I am honestly wondering if the alfalfa helped against any major rust outbreaks, too. I've also had wonderful results from the alfalfa treatment. I need to do another one in a couple of weeks. I just fertilized everything in my garden beds (including the daylilies) with milorganite. Then watered it in really good. I've yet to see a major rust outbreak on any of my daylilies so far this year.

That is interesting Becky. I will watch and see if that happens here with rust.

Gee, I really need to find a place around here that sells the alfalfa. There are no places really close that sell it that I know of.

Cynthia, just google 'feed store melvindale mi' and I'll bet that will tell you the nearest place. If it's a bit of a drive, maybe phone first and make sure they have it.

Our local feed store was sold out when I went to get some last time. Darn horses eating all my soil amendment!

I had no rust so far in my garden this year, I am really surprised because I had a lot of rust last year, and the year before. I am still thinking the cold winter we had this year must have killed the rust, so maybe for the next few years rust can stay out of my garden. I sprayed for rust the past two years, but did no spraying at all this year. Hoping the alfalfa will help develop nice clumps, with dark green healthy foliage. Now I need at least one more bag.

I also found a produce place that makes up there own bags of Guinea Pig food of pellets. They assure me there is no salt added. Also, I can get bales of packed alfalfa hay that gardening stores sell as mulch. The local horse places have been terrible to find it: all the horse food reads like dog and cat food now. You know, with vitamins and additives to help it win the grand national with bones of steel or the like.
