Thumb of 2014-09-17/MotherRaphaela/948406 We bought this last year at the museum's plant sale and so much has happened between then and now that I don't remember why we bought it or what it is. The plants on sale are usually from the apothecary's herb garden. Can anyone help us identify it? Thank you!

It appears to be Filipendula rubra or similar species... no idea what herbal use it might have, if any.

How do these photos of Filipendula rubra match up with your plant MR?

Dear Lori and Lynn,

Yes, absolutely, that's the plant -- Meadowsweet! I'll have to move it in the spring for it to grow into its full potential. Thank you very much.

I'll also have to look it up and find out if it has any use other than being ornamental...

Again, Thank You!

Here you go MR. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F...

Lori, thank you for putting us on the right track. I don't know how you get started on finding some of these plants?

Ummm, I drove you right to the station but then it seems you derailed... Green Grin!
Please note that the plant in question is not Filipendula ulmaria (the link you added), which has completely different leaves.
This is what Filipendula ulmaria looks like:

The plant in the photo has leaves (and overall character) that match Filipendula rubra, a different species. Smiling

Sorry about the MR and Lori. The first link to Rob's Plants show the photo Filipendula rubra. Don't know how I ended up give a link to the other species.

Correct, that's what I just said. That photo is Filipendula ulmaria but your plant appears to be Filipendula rubra as I said above... quite different species.

Whew! I'm confused enough these days. Glad my Meadowsweet is identified! MR Hurray!
